Celebrating A New Erotic Menage From Sara Brookes

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog, we're celebrating the release of
RAGGED EDGE
, a new Ellora's Cave Taboo release for Sara Brookes.
Sara Brookes is a multi-published author who has always been fascinated by the strange, the unusual, the twisted and the lost (tortured heroes are her personal favorite). She is an action movie junkie, addicted to coffee and has been known to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing RPG video games. Despite all this, she is a romantic at heart and is always a sucker for an excellent love story. Born and bred in Virginia, Sara still lives there with her husband and daughter. The entire family is owned by two cats, Galahad and Loki, who graciously allow the family to cater to their every desire.

RAGGED EDGE
by Sara Brookes

Dalton is no stranger to hitting rock bottom. He's worked hard to turn his life around. Now he has a quiet life, a successful business and a no-strings-attached arrangement for sex with Kincade. Everything is just as it should be. Then a late-night rendezvous is interrupted by a sexy newcomer, and Dalton realizes something is missing.

Caught up in the intense passion the men share, Erin doesn't know whether to run or get between their hard bodies. She's convinced her attraction is wrong. However, a little persuasion from both Dalton and Cade convinces her she belongs with and between them.

Erin's surrender becomes Dalton's reawakening. A BDSM master, Dalton is in his element commanding his lovers, and soon the threesome fills their nights with mind-blowing pleasure. But when a piece of Dalton's past resurfaces, it threatens the very foundation he's built...and could put him back at the bottom.

  3. Thank you so much for helping me celebrate Ragged Edge's release!

This was one of those books that hit me upside the head and demanded to be written. It happens occasionally and I learned a long time ago to listen to those voices squawking at me to write something in particular. There were a lot of sleepless nights attached to this story and days where I couldn't get to the keyboard fast enough! *g*

I've never made it a secret that I love to write stories about tortured souls. Nearly all of my books have them. In Ragged Edge, Dalton, Erin and Cade are no exception. In each of their own ways, they have problems. When they all get together, those things aren't exacerbated--instead they all go away. Through each other, they all find a way to make themselves stronger and go on. Then the bond the three share is put to the test and they're left to pick up the pieces. Their journey is very much a story about redemption, and surviving, and I'm so glad to get the opportunity to bring their story to you!

I'm actually hard at work on a book that focuses on one of the secondary characters of Ragged Edge and I hope I get to share his story as well. *g* Not to mention, I'll be back here next week to celebrate another new release I have for one of my futuristic erotica shorts.

In the meantime, I'll be around all day to answer any questions you have!

  7. Thanks for stopping by elaing8, Regina and Bookwyrm!

I do have a favorite scene, elaing8, and it's actually right at the end of where the three are together for the first time. It's not in a typical manner and it doesn't end how you'd think. Erin is a submissive but its a good scene that shows being one doesn't mean she is a pushover or isn't afraid to stand up for herself.

Regina, that's a hard question to answer because there are so many that I love! I just recently finished reading Cat Grants Entangled Trio and it was fantastic!

Much like Regina's question, Bookwyrm, there are so many to name that I love to read for fun and not all of them are erotic romance authors either. *g* Patricia Briggs, Ann Aguirre, Lauren Dane, Megan Hart, Laura Anne Gilman, Cherise Sinclair, and Joey W Hill, just to name a few. It's an eclecticc mix as I have a wide range of books I like to read.

  8. Oh, boy, coffee! Chele, you've defintely started something with that question. *G*

I love, love, love Kona. Straight up black, fresh and piping hot. I'm lucky enough to travel a few time a year and one of the places I get to go is Hawaii and I usually ship back unholy amounts of Kona when I do. Unfortunately, I haven't be able to go for a few years because of other commitments and my Kona supply is dwindling. I just recently bought a Keurig machine and the hazelnut blend is excellent. Always, always black, though, no matter the brand.

  9. Congratulations on the release of Ragged Edge! My question would be regarding research - what kind of research did you do for Ragged Edge? Or did you use research you might have done for your other books? Thanks!

I hope you have a fun launch party and that Ragged Edge is very successful for you.

  12. Congratulations on your new release Sara! It looks really good. My question is about your writing process - are you a morning or evening writer and do you listen to music while you write? If you listen to music do you create a soundtrack for each book? Other than coffee, do you have a favorite snack you just have to have while you write?

  16. Hello Sara!
Congratulations on the release of Ragged Edge. BDSM and menage are my two favorite sub-genres of Erotic romance. I prefer to read m/m/f menage so I think Dalton/Cade/Erin's story sounds like something I would enjoy. I'm intrigued by whatever secret is haunting Dalton. Good luck with the new release!

  17. Thank you for stopping by and asking some fabulous questions Karen, Jean, June, Maria, Melanie, shadow_kohler, and Sherry!

I'm one of those writers who absolutely loves research, Karen. I could get swept away for days on end just looking into one small thing. Because of that I have to put time limits on myself. For Ragged Edge, since it is a contemporary, there wasn't as much needed as say, one of my paranormal or sci-fi stories. That's not to say contemporaries don't still need them. But I didn't have to write about a spaceship the characters fly for Ragged Edge. *g* Some of the knowledge I'd gained from researching another BDSM contemporary I wrote, Hardware, was my research for Ragged Edge.

Kona coffee should be a narcotic, Jean! *g* I'm at the point I'm rationing out what I have left. The amount of cover input from an author varies between publishers. We fill out forms to give the artists ideas of what the characters look like and a general sense of the book. I've been lucky enough to be gifted with some fabulous artists who have given me the most gorgeous covers I could ask for. When the cover for Ragged Edge came in, its just as you see it today. I didn't ask for a single change to be made and I'm still in love with it to this day.

Maria, my writing time is split between morning and evening. I still have a day job, so more often than not I get up in the morning earlier than I need to and write before I go to work. Then, after I get home in the evenings, I can get a few more hours in. It's hard work juggling, but I love it! Music is my muse. Every full length book I write gets a play list and I post them on my website as the books release. Along with my music, I always have to have my favorite writing snack--M&Ms. I'm a sucker for them!

Where to start depends on what you're in the mood for, Melanie! Need some high-octane, high-flying, and award-winning space opera (think Star Wars or Firefly/Serenity)? My Star Runner series is perfect for that: Midnight's Ghost, then Midnight's Shadow w/ one more book to come. If sci-fi isn't your thing, my Rebirth series is full of kick-ass vampires and sexy-as-sin Fae. Flash of Dark, Blood Fever and then Forged in Fire w/ more to come as well. If you're looking for another BDSM contemporary erotic romance, I have Hardware available as well. Girl geek meets coffeehouse barista w/ a commanding streak. *g*

shadow_kohler, I loathe writers block! I don't suffer from it now because I learned how to overcome it. For me, I need to work on a few projects at once. If I get stuck on one, with, say, a plot point, I can put it aside and work on something else. So I basically leap frog between MSs to avoid getting 'stuck'.

Sherry, I read a wide variety of books so anything that captures my attention is going to be a favorite. I love to both read and write strong female characters (who know how to still have a soft side).

  26. Hey there, Jane, books4me, Crystal, joder, Donna, Tracey and runner10! Thank you for stopping by the Cyber Launch.

Well, Jane, as my husband says, what aren't my favorite action movies. *g* Needless to say, I love a good popcorn movie. Yep, I love the big explosions, the improbable stunts and cheesy dialogue. I still drag my husband to chick flicks all the time, but actions movies really are something I love. Some of my absolute favs are Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Matrix, Speed, Die Hard, Casino Royale, The Borne Ultimatum, Terminator, The Transporter...yeah, I'm going to stop now because I could go on all day.

Kona is very, very expensive, but oh, so good, books4me! Easy to fall in love with, but hard to maintain that relationship, that's for sure. I've been writing since I was kid. As an only child, it was a great escape where I had plenty of people around me whenever I wanted. I'd make up silly fantasy stories about by friends. In high school I was the one that sat in a corner during lunch scribbling away at nothing in particular. I dabbled some in erotica in my early 20's, but then my daughter was born and she took up most of my time. As she got older, I slipped back into writing little by little. Then I took a college composition class and every time I turned in an assignment, my professor would ask the same question: "Have you ever thought about publishing?" I didn't think much about it then as I was in college to work on a Computer Science degree, but obviously I changed my mind about that. LOL

Typing the end on a story, joder, is a big deal. Since I'm usually alone when that happens, it's a nice little victory chair dance and off to the next project. Now when a book releases, it's usually my favorite dessert and a celebratory glass of my favorite wine.

What a fantastic question, Donna! For me, oddly enough, writing male characters is sometimes easier than writing females. I've had several people suggest I write a book from the male POV - a hard thing to do in a romance. Not to say it can't be done, I've read some fabulous ones. In Dalton's instance, he's completely at ease with his sexuality, so being with Cade for him is just as natural as being with Erin. The harder part was actually getting in the mindset to write Dalton to the level of Dom he is. He's not the first Dom I've written, but certainly the toughest since he so effortlessly commands two submissive at one time. That was the tough part.

Tracey!! Glad to see you over here. And yes, Adam is going to get his own story. In fact, I spent my lunch hour today working on it. Right now, I'm at the point that I'm still getting to know him, and his leading lady, a little bit more. This is always a fun part of me.

As I said to book4me earlier, runner10, I've been writing since I was a kid. But I didn't start writing seriously until around 2006/2007. Even then, I wrote only for myself. I didn't even think to write something to try to get it published. And then I came up with the idea for the Rebirth series and as I started playing with the storyline and characters more, I realized I had something I wanted more for than just to sit on my hard drive. I didn't get my first offer until 2009. Patience is really key in publishing. LOL

  27. I love your list of authors. It does make me think of a question. Clearly, Dalton and Cade have an existing relationship. Why have a third person enter the mix? I think Lauren Dane did it successfully in Laid Bare (one of my all time favorite books) but it seems risky to me. Congrats of the new book. I would love to read it.

  31. Welcome to the party Jen B, marybelle, Cathy M & Debby!! Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

Awesome question, Jen B! I've always been a big believer that relationships are organic. They grow and change as the people involved in the relationship grow and change as well. Sometimes it's a matter of if the parties involved in the relationship fight it or accept the change. Nothing about Dalton & Cade's relationship is set in stone and they're accepting of whatever comes along. Early on, Erin also is very explicit in her desire to not come between men; to be something that drives the men apart. But the trio's arrangement is all about sex in the beginning and we all know nothing can come of that, right? ;^)

marybelle, in the instance of Ragged Edge having BDSM involved in the story, the characters dictated it. When I started developing the characters and realized Dalton had a history with a BDSM club, I knew the direction the characters were taking me. I didn't mind, this isn't the first encounter I've had with writing BDSM. This actually gave me a reason to dig even more into the lifestyle so I could understand my characters even more. I'm lucky enough to have a few contacts that are gracious enough to put up with my questions when I make a general pest of myself. *g*

Hi, Cathy! Great to see you here at the party. I seem to have a soft place in my heart for series, or at least books that are loosely connected--which is what these will probably be. Right now, I'm not sure what I have planned for these books. It'll be interesting to see what happens!

As I just said above, I seem to have a soft spot for series, Debby. Each series is different for me in planning. With my Rebirth series (paranormal/urban fantasy) I knew from the beginning it would be five or six books in length to tell it all. In fact, when I subbed the first one of the series, I was already working on the fourth book and had the fifth and sixth planned. For my Star Runner series (space opera/futuristic) I knew it would be three books, for a trilogy, but when I subbed the first book, I hadn't even started the second. When I wrote Hardware, I planned for it to be a stand alone. Then, when I did my final read through of the manuscript, I realized I'd unintentionally set it up perfectly for a four book series. So, as you can see, sometimes the series plan themselves for me. LOL

  35. Welcome tammy, jessica and lindseye!

Not about these particular characters, tammy. This is their story and it wraps up in the end with a satisfying ending for them. Now that isn't to say they may can't pop up in any future stories I write that are connected to this book, but they would be secondary characters and not overshadow the main characters.

Yes, lindseye, I can work on more than one book at a time but I usually limited it to two at the most. Now I do tend to leap frog on books, as I talked about earlier with beating writer's block. If I'm stuck on one I can go work on another. But I do know some authors who are very strict and can only work on one book at a time in order to stay in the characters heads. I'm a rather slow writer, and have found--through trial and error--that approach doesn't work for me.

  36. Late to the party, Sara--I'm intrigued by the sounds of your latest! I do enjoy those tortured characters--they are the ones I root hardest for them to get their HEAs.

  37. They do say the best time to arrive at a party is fashionably late, fichen! *g*

Yes! As far back as I can remember I've been a reader and a writer. As an only child, books were my escape. I could spend hours in my room, curled up with a good book and think nothing of it. In fact, I could probably still do that to this day and think nothing of it. But alas...responsibilities. LOL And no, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be be published...well, okay, maybe in my wildest. But I never thought it'd would actually happen. Let alone that I'd get the news a few weeks ago that I'd won an award for one of my books. Just goes to show you to never say never!

    ReplyDelete
  38. LOL! Yes, it's good to never say never, Sara! Congratulations on the award--how tremendously exciting to be living out one of your wildest dreams ;) May more of those be coming true for you, too! And wishing you a few free days to indulge in reading, too!
