New Book Kicks Off New Series For New Writing Team

All day today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog, we're celebrating the debut release for the writing team of April Fifer and Danielle Hylton-Outland, which kicks off their new fantasy series!

FLESH AND FEATHERS by April Fifer and Danielle Hylton-Outland

Flesh Series Book One

Azaleigh's life is simple until, by chance, she meets Kale. Charming and handsome, Az is immediately drawn to him. But long kept secrets lurk in the hearts of those Az holds most dear, and dangerous plans are unfolding around her.

As her life begins to crumble and Kale disappears, Gage, charismatic and striking, arrives, providing a calm port in an increasingly violent storm. But with every narrow escape from a far from human bounty hunter who's after her life, Az begins to unravel a secret with the power to change her forever. In an increasingly hostile world of Angel and Fallen, Azaleigh must navigate her own path, chose her own side, and ultimately protect her heart.

Faced with two gorgeous men, an enemy she doesn’t know, and a future she cannot understand, Az must make a choice - the man she loves, or the man she cannot live without.

Danielle Hylton-Outland was raised in Virginia. She grew up having a huge appetite for daydreaming; always wanting to live in the spectacular worlds she created in her mind. She now lives with her husband and dog where she is pursuing a degree in literature. Danielle is a strong animal activist. She is currently co-writing the second book in the Flesh Series, "Flesh and Flames".

April Fifer grew up in a small town in Virginia, where it was common practice believing that dreams could only be found in stories. At the age of seven she was diagnosed with dyslexia. She was told that she would struggle through life and would never pick up a book to read for pleasure. Although school was hard, she was able to find her way with the help of two teachers who taught her self-discovery. Ignoring what she was taught growing up, she turned it around and found that your dreams could become stories.

  1. Woo Hoo Welcome April and Danielle! And super congrats on your new release FLESH AND FEATHERS!

The book sounds fantastic and I can't wait to read it. Can you tell us a bit about it and about the new series it kicks off? How will the books connect and how many do you plan for it?

Since your new authors for me, please tell us all about yourselves and how you two decided to write together. Writing teams always interest me, I love to hear how they work together to create new worlds and stories for us readers.

Thanks so much for the great prize...I mean who can't use more money for books! Hope you have fun today at your cyber launch party and I hope FLESH AND FEATHERS is a HUGE bestseller for you and the beginning to a most successful writing team. Best of luck!

  2. I love that cover! How did you meet and why did you start writing together? How does the process work? I've always been curious about how co-writers do it. :D

    1. Thanks so much :-) Reese Dante did the cover and she is amazing! Danielle and I have worked together for about 8 years. 2 of the those, we have been writing together. Our process is a little wild. LOL. I think we are somewhat co-dependant now, because we are always calling each other saying... "what do you think of this?" We have no idea how it is supposed to be done, but we each write a scene that we connect with and the other goes over it and adds her personality to it. However, Danielle and I are so much alike that there is usually nothing that we disagree on.

  3. Hey there! Thanks for the welcome :-)

Flesh and Feathers is the first book in The Flesh Series. It’s a story about a girl named Azaleigh Carlton. She lives in downtown LA and is somewhat introverted. Azaleigh has kept her life simple, but when she meets Kale, simple gets thrown out the window. He is charming and mysterious and she is drawn to him. However, when things take a turn and get complicated, Kale disappears and Gage steps in to pick up the pieces. Strange things start to take place and Azaleigh soon realizes that secrets are being kept and evil in seeking her out. Chaos unfolds and she is forced to uncover a truth that haunts her. Torn between two men and a future of uncertainty, Azaleigh must make a decision that will change her life forever.

The Flesh Series will continue with Azaleigh as the main character. In Flesh and Feathers, she discovers her future. The second book, Flesh and Flames, gives us the background on the characters and a new danger. Flesh and Flames is tightly wound with Flesh and Feathers, so readers will see a thicker plot. We have no clue how many we will right to the series. We have just agreed, that when it’s done, it’s done. We don’t want to over bake it. We wanted a story about a girl falling in love with an angel, but after lots of research (and I do mean lots), we were able to create a world all our own.

We have worked together for years and by chance figured out that we both had a love for writing. We have been writing together for two years now. It is a delicate balance of extra strong coffee and laughing at each other.

  4. Congrats on your new release! Sounds really good. Do you ever base your books on things from real life?

    1. LOL. Actually yes and no. We based Azaleigh on our personalities and in some cases we based some scenes on things that have happened to us personally, however we over-dramatized it for the book :-)

    1. Hey Jessica :-) How've you been?! Hmmm... Azaleigh is a mesh of me and Danielle. Not real sure if that is inspiration or not. LOL. But it was nice to be able to put her in different scenarios, and then to make her react how we do. This may sound really silly, but it's the truth... she kind of inspired us. We now laugh at ourselves and say we are having an "Az moment."

When and how did you come up with your idea for the book? How long have you known each other?

    1. Thanks so much! We have known each other for about nine years. We have been best friends for three. She came up with the plot about a angel love affair and then we took off with the entire plot. Everything just came really easy.

    1. Thanks Heather! Well woudn't that be the best possible dream come true! A movie! oh yes! Well you know we love Twilight, who doesn't? It's kinda like a Twilight meets Hush Hush but with adult situations. It is a series. We have said we will keep writing the series until the story stops. We don't see it stopping anytime soon. We are almost done writing Flesh and Flames, book #2.

    1. April and I sit down and shout out names until we both scream, "I love that name!" lol. It's a very simple procedure. Ha Ha! Azaleigh's name started out as Samantha but we quickly realized that was not the right fit for her.

    1. Collaborating comes so natural for both of us. I do not believe I coul write with anyone other than april. We compliment each others writing and play well together. She is one of the few people I can be completly goofy around and know she will never judge me.

Do you have ideas for other storylines after this series? Do you each also write and submit stuff independently?
