Celebrating A New Release For Zenobia Renquist

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog we are celebrating a new release for Zenobia Renquist's (aka D. Renee Bagby)!

TAKING IT BACK by Zenobia Renquist

Sometimes you have to get grabby to get what you want.

Nami is in Vegas for a business seminar. Kosuke is a tentacle monster in search of a cure for the affliction keeping him from eating. While she may not make him better, Kosuke is more than willing to put that aside to enjoy the other things Nami can do for him.

Renee is a military brat turned military wife who is currently stationed in Hawaii with her husband and two cats.

Whether writing as D. Renee Bagby or Zenobia Renquist, she is a world-builder. She loves inventing new cultures and shaping their histories and laws because it beats researching the existing ones.

Her stories span the fantasy gamut but she dabbles in sci-fi and contemporary from time to time. While her main characters tend to be of different races, she doesn't let skin color rule or limit her stories. For her, it's all about how much she can torture her characters so they earn their happily-ever-after ending.

The rules are all new and pre-conceived notions will only slow you down, so when reading Renee's stories, she asks only one thing -- Leave Your Reality Behind.

  1. Woo Hoo - Super congrats on the two new releases! You're one busy author!

Tell us all about your new books - I can't wait to hear about TAKING IT BACK - I'm not sure I ever heard of that kind of shifter before - sounds fun!

And PET'S PLEASURE sounds super sexy - I'm heading over to read the excerpt for that now!

Are these two releases stand alone stories or will we be seeing either of these worlds again?

I saw on your website you have another release coming out this month - tell us about that one too! Hawaii must be good for your muse!

Hope you have two new bestsellers on your hands - have fun today!

  2. Hi DeNita!!

Yup. Hawaii is great for my muse. I'm still not writing as fast as I want but I'm definitely writing faster than I was. :D

TAKING IT BACK -- Kosuke is a tentacle monster. Anyone familiar with Japanese culture and hentai (Japanese animated porn) knows what a tentacle monster is. For those who don't... well, it's a monster with tentacles. :P No better way to explain it than that. Sometimes they are aliens, sometimes they are demons, or in Kosuke's case just another species in the preternatural world.

A tentacle monster was entertaining to write, though a bit draining. It's all the joy of a gangbang without the gang. As a result, I had to make sure all the tentacles were having fun... as it were. I'll probably have a short coming out for this one as soon as I get some other stuff finished.

PET'S PLEASURE is a different look at the whole pet conundrum. For those who might think so, this isn't BDSM. It's a mainstream romance out with EC Blush (ie - not erotic). It's an alien abduction and being treated like an inferior species. Just think of it like someone taking an animal off the street and deciding to make it a pet and you have Starling's life in PET'S PLEASURE.

Both books are completely stand alone. Beyond a short freebie for TAKING IT BACK, I have no intention of revisiting either world though I really enjoyed creating both.

And yes, I have a short story coming out at the end of the month with Changeling Press that is part of the Foxy series -- a set of shifter stories that takes place in Last Chance, Alaska. I didn't plan to have two releases back to back and didn't really notice that TAKING IT BACK and PET'S PLEASURE were a week apart until the release dates rolled around. But that's what comes of having multiple publishers. Now I'm just trying to make sure both stories get equal time so they can both succeed.

    Thanks for having me today!

    2. Awesome work I am glad you are having so much success. Any tips you can give us struggling writers on how to make good erotic writings

    3. For good novella erotic romance you need three things:

#1 - a plausible relationship start -- for this the best thing is to have the characters already know each other or have the first meeting be such that they can't help but fall into bed (spell, curse, surprise marriage)

#2 - a plot -- erotic romance is about more than sex. Remember that your readers want a plot too.

#3 - a healthy imagination to keep your sex scenes fresh or access to a LOT of porn. I go the porn route. :P

  3. Wow--so cool, Zenobia! Congrats on both releases, and LOL! I've never read a story featuring a tentacle monster before! I MUST add this to my TBB! It must be hard juggling several new releases at once, though as a reader, there's nothing better!

Do you commemorate your releases in any special way? Two dinners out, at least?? :)

    1. Hi Fedora!

I don't know if it's special, but I usually lurk in front of my computer until someone says something about the release. I'm not as nervous as I was when I first started out but I still want to make sure I turned out a good book before I jump into writing the next one. Even a quick email on a chat loop saying a reader enjoyed the book is enough.

  4. Pet's Pleasure is already on my TBR list and I'm adding Taking it Back. I wonder, what type of writer are you? Do the stories come into your brain fully formed or do you write and see where the story leads you?

    1. Hi Tanja!

I'm a pantser. I write with a destination in mind (general idea of the major plot points) but the story usually leads me where it wants to go. For the most part it works. I did try planning out an entire story when I first started out, but I got so bored with the book that I didn't finish it. I may go back to it one day but I'm sure I'll toss the "map" and just write until I get to where the characters want to go.

    1. Hi Lisa!

Yes, I am still super busy. I'm trying to finish several more novellas as well as three novels before the year is out. And that's just this year, I have no clue what I'll be doing in 2013 but it should be a lot as well.

I've been seeing all the tweets and FBs coming out of RT12. Seems like everyone is having fun. If it didn't cost so much to fly out of Hawaii (and to attend), I would have gone. Maybe next time though.

  10. Hi Renee. i don't know which i envy more--your residence in Hawaii (as opposed to Chicago suburbs here) or the fact that u finished 2 novels (my pair remain incomplete and beg for my attention). i look 4ward 2 rdg your new work, whether free or not.

    1. Hi Ken!

I am loving Hawaii. It's living inspiration for me. I think it's all the sunshine. Hard to be down when everything is so bright and summery all year round.

And I know the feeling about things being incomplete. I wish I had clones. I have several stories that want my attention and not enough hands and hours in the day to write them all. But I'm chugging along as best as I can with just the standard issue of two hands and 24hrs. :D

    1. Hi Donna!

Free time? What's that? No seriously, I do have down times every now again. I'm not writing all day everyday. I wish. I would have a lot more finished, but my brain doesn't work like that. I go through ebbs and flows. There are times when I can drop thousands of words everyday for a week or two and then there are times when typing a status message on Twitter is the hardest thing I could ever imagine.

For the times when I'm not writing, I'm usually catching up on TV or reading an entire manga series (manga is Japanese comics). And sometimes I'm just wasting time on FB, sharing pictures. Mostly I try not to be bored.

    1. Hi BN100!

For TAKING IT BACK, I went looking through a Japanese naming guide. I generally try to pick names that sound nice to me.

For PET'S PLEASURE, I wanted a heroine with the nickname "Star." In the first draft of this story, her name was Starrshine, but I axed that and went with Starling. For Bekion... I have no clue where I got that. I'm pretty sure I made it up, but it's been so long since I started this story that I can't remember what my thought process was.

I have a tendency of making up a lot of names when I'm dealing with other worlds and stuff like that. Usually I'll take the beginning of one name and mash it together with the ending of another. Or sometimes I'll want a name to mean a certain thing, so I'll use a language dictionary to look up the word/phrase and mash together the words that pop up in the search -- again the beginning of one word with the ending of another.

  13. Congrats on two releases and I'm adding Pet's Pleasure to my reading list. How did you choose your pen name?

    1. Hi Vallory!

Zenobia means given life by Zeus. I love Greek mythology and when I created a character who was going to be featured in a comic book my friend and I were trying to get started, it was the name I chose. Sadly the comic didn't get off the ground, however I still found a use for the name when I started writing and wanted a pen name.

Renquist is just a name that I have always liked. Plus it has the R E N of my real middle name so that was a bonus.
