Celebrating A New Book From Denise Skelton

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog, we're celebrating Denise Skelton's new women's fiction release A LIFE OF MY OWN.

Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Denise is a part of a close-knit family and is lovingly supported by her husband, three daughters and two sons. Skelton draws inspiration from everyday life. As a US Army veteran, and former private investigator, who's just about seen it all, she often awakes with exciting new creative ideas flowing through her mind like a river of words.

  3. Hi. I enjoyed the video. Great tunes. I am amazed that all of your books are so up beat. Most of them have some kind of empowerment in them. Is this a conscious decision or just who you are?

  6. A Life of My Own is about Liz, a woman who's been married for 11 years to a man who has 2 daughter and who is verbally and mentally abusive. Liz realizes that she deserves better, with the help of a new friend, and sets out to find it.

The hardest part of writing it was not to have it turn into a romance.

  7. I guess me writing stories that are upbeat is something that comes from my subconscious. I never really thought about. I like happy endings, and though it seldom happens in real life, I like to think it happens in our dreams.

Do you do anything special to commemorate your new releases? Framed coverflats? New bling? Dinner out? :)

    Congrats!

  9. Thank you. When I start a new book, I purchase something I like. Once I bought a bracelet, another time it was a Starbucks gift card. And I wrap it up and put it on my bookshelf. When I finish the book I’m working on, I get the gift.
