Celebrating A New Release For Tim Smith

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog we are celebrating the release of MEMORIES DIE LAST, the first Nick Seven Story from author Tim Smith and eXtasy Books.

Tim is the author of five novels, including two contemporary romantic comedies with eXtasy Books. His first three adventure novels have won critical acclaim and several awards. He is also a freelance photographer and works in Dayton, Ohio as a case manager for adults with special needs. When he isn't devoting time to writing, you can find him in The Florida Keys, doing research in between parasailing and seeking out the perfect Pina Colada.

A Nick Seven Book

A former CIA spook, the woman he always wanted but couldn’t have, and a nemesis from their past all come together in an explosive mix of intrigue and espionage.

What happens when your life is turned inside out by something from your past that won’t leave you alone? Former CIA operative Nick Seven finds out when his peaceful life in The Florida Keys is disrupted by the appearance of an old nemesis he thought was buried alongside the painful memory of a personal tragedy. Nick reluctantly gets back into the spy game to settle an old score and is pleasantly surprised to find himself paired with beautiful Felicia Hagens, a former co-worker from Barbados. Together they uncover a complex maze of intrigue, espionage and high-level government corruption. The assignment gets more complicated when they realize they have unrequited feelings for each other. Can Nick finally hit the elusive target and reclaim his personal corner of paradise? Will Felicia return to Barbados or stay with the rugged former spy she’s always had a secret thing for?

  6. Thank you all for the comments and questions. I'll try my best to answer them in order.

This version of "Memories Die Last" is completely different from the original that was released 9 years ago, because I've become a better write since then. All I retained was the title, characters and the basic plot. Everything else was rewritten for the romance market. Yes, that meant I had to turn up the heat while maintaining the thriller edge that people liked about the first version.

The idea for this story had been bouncing around in my head for years until I finally challenged myself to either write it or shut up about it. The book proved so popular that it was followed by two more featuring the same characters. Revamped versions of those will be forthcoming.

I do read contemporary romance as well as write it, because I review for Two Lips Reviews. I try to read a different author or publisher each time, and I'm amazed at the varying degrees of quality and subject matter. To be honest, I've read some that were excellent, but an equal number that were a struggle to get through. I'm learning a lot about what readers buy/read, and it has influenced my own writing.

  7. How did you get interested in parasailing and how long have you been participating in this activity?

  8. I like photography too, although it's just a hobby.
How did you get started in writing?

  9. Congrats on your new release! Sounds awesome would love to read it. You would be a new author to me. What is your favorite part of writing?

  10. Leni, I took up parasailing when I reached a certain age and didn't have someone telling me 'no'. I'd always wanted to and it was the first thing I gifted myself with after my last divorce. That was 12 years ago and I still get a rush from it.

Julianne, I started writing the same way I got into photography - it was a pasttime I enjoyed. Like photography, eventually I got to the point where I could get paid something for it - not much, but something.

Virginia, I enjoy all parts of writing. Coming up with an idea that intrigues me, creating interesting quirky characters, the whole bit. I suppose the best part is when I'm editing and putting on the finishing touches, especailly when something good comes to me that I didn't think of the first time around.

  11. wow congrats thisbook sounds awesome ty for sharing and that cover is just wow beautiful

  12. How exciting, Tim--congrats on the new release of this! Are all your Nick Seven titles getting the same treatment then? How many do you have now?

  13. I have three that were originally in print (the third, "The Vendetta Factor" is still available that way) and several more that are in the rough draft stage. The reaction to the originals told me I had a character that people really liked so yes, there will be more adventures.

  14. Congrats on your release, Tim. Not sure if you answered this question, but what inspired this story when you first thought it up years ago?
