Celebrating Zenobia Renquist's New Release And New Series

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog we are celebrating a sexy new IR fantasy from Zenobia Renquist's (aka D. Renee Bagby)!

ON A WHIM by Zenobia Renquist

Guardian's Tales Book One

Mortals should beware the whims of gods.

Rosaline never thought she would find a meaningful relationship at an adult party for the denizens of the preternatural community. She came to have fun and flirt with danger while hiding behind the safety of the party's rules. And then she met Sebastian, a demi-god who demands all her attention and satisfies her every need.

Even though her head says it's nothing but pleasure between consenting adults with no strings attached, her heart is wondering if this fickle demi-god might actually want to be with her.

Renee is a military brat turned military wife who is currently stationed in Hawaii with her husband and two cats.

Whether writing as D. Renee Bagby or Zenobia Renquist, she is a world-builder. She loves inventing new cultures and shaping their histories and laws because it beats researching the existing ones.

Her stories span the fantasy gamut but she dabbles in sci-fi and contemporary from time to time. While her main characters tend to be of different races, she doesn't let skin color rule or limit her stories. For her, it's all about how much she can torture her characters so they earn their happily-ever-after ending.

The rules are all new and pre-conceived notions will only slow you down, so when reading Renee's stories, she asks only one thing -- Leave Your Reality Behind.

  1. Enjoyed the excerpt. Sounds like a great read. How many books are you planning for the Guardian series?

    1. Hi Tamsyn, thanks for coming out. The series has four books planned so far, not counting this one. There might be a fifth. I'm still debating whether I want to journey into M/M land. The characters are talking to me, but we'll see what my muse says.

  2. Good morning Zenobia!! Congrats on the new release!

Wow - hot excerpt, sounds like a great place to center a series around! Tell us a bit about this new series. How many books do you plan for it and how are they going to connect?

Hawaii must be great for the muse, you've had a very busy spring! Tell us what all you have going on and what's up this summer.

Can't wait to see you next weekend at Lori Foster's weekend!

    1. Hi DeNita,

Sorry I'm late. We had a scheduled power outage at my place. And of course it was scheduled for my release day. It's a conspiracy theory, I tell you. :P

Guardian's Tales is a series with Guardian -- a demi-goddess with a penchant for matchmaking -- as the central background character. Currently, I have 4 other books planned. They are all stand alone titles.

Hawaii is great for my muse. I have even more books planned, but I'll be slowing down a little in 2013 so I can focus on getting out more novels.

  3. My cats say Hi! Has the frequent moving changed the direction or setting of your writing?

    1. Hi Bast, thanks for coming out. I don't think the moving has changed anything. I'm a military brat, so I'm used to moving. I actually feel weird if I'm in a location too long now. Every new locale offers me a new perspective and that helps with my world building.

  4. Hi, Zenobia! Congrats on this new series--it sounds like a lot of fun! What's demi-god? Are there just a few (like in the Greek Pantheon) or lots of them running around? ;)

And do you attend many conferences? I so wish I were going to Lori's weekend--have fun, Zenobia and DeNita!!!

    1. Hi Fedora, thanks for coming out. A demi-god is the half-human child of a god, like Hercules. They aren't always Greek since there are many pantheons to choose from. In the Guardian's Tales series, so far, you'll only be meeting two. There are others but I have no plans to write about them.

  5. Congratulations on the book! How did you come up with your pen name?

    1. Hi BN100, thanks for coming out. My pen name is something I chose in high school. Zenobia means given life by Zeus and I love Greek mythology. So I chose that name for a character in a comic I was creating with a friend. The comic didn't pan out but I kept the name. And I've always liked the name Renquist.

  6. Congratulations on your latest release, it sounds great! That is a fantastic excerpt!

Do you have a scene in your mind that you haven't been able to fit into one of your stories yet?

    1. Hi Susan, thanks for coming out. I have tons of scenes. Some make it to books, some don't. Thankfully Changeling Press encourages its authors to do free reads called Encounters. So if I have a short scene -- that happens to be hot -- I can still write it out and offer it free to tempt people into getting the full novella.

  7. Hi Zenobia, I know you write mostly about women of color, is it a bit more complicated to write about a heroine that is white? Do have to do more research to get it just right?

    1. Hi Wanda, thanks for coming out. It's not complicated at all to write a heroine who is white. But that's 80% of the romance out there. And I'm black so I want to have books with a black heroine. It's the reason I started writing. I wanted to see a black heroine getting into the same mischief as a white heroine. Since I couldn't find any books like that, I decided to write my own.

    1. Donna - Thanks for coming out. Since Memorial Day Weekend and my hubby's birthday usually fall around the same time, we are going out to celebrate his birth. I'm also going to try and find the Byodo-In temple again. It's a multi-denominational cemetery with a beautiful Japanese temple at the heart of it. I have pictures on my blog. The hubby hasn't seen it and I told him I would find my way there so he could.
