Celebrating A New Vic Fallon Mystery From eXtasy Author Tim Smith

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog we are celebrating the release of LIDO KEY, a new Vic Fallon Mystery from author Tim Smith and eXtasy Books.

LIDO KEY by Tim Smith

A Vic Fallon Mystery

She’s a young trophy widow involved in a bizarre sex scandal. He’s her former lover, a busted cop turned Private Investigator. Consider the possibilities.

Vic Fallon has worked on some strange cases since he left the Police force to become a Private Investigator, but when a former lover asks him to look into a bizarre blackmail demand, it’s one for his memoirs. Vic hasn’t seen Ariel Weston since his last trip to Siesta Key, Florida, three years earlier. The end of their affair wasn’t amicable, and Vic swore that the next time he saw Ariel he’d drown her with the nearest Piña Colada. When Ariel gets caught up in a potentially embarrassing sex scandal, she appeals to him for help. Vic reluctantly agrees but finds himself in a real quandary when he realizes they still have feelings for each other.

The case pulls Vic out of his northern Ohio comfort zone to the Sunshine State, where he crosses paths with a corrupt local cop, a famous writer with a taste for booze and women, and a sleazy strip club owner who knows more than he’s letting on. Throw in one very cute Latina who develops a crush on him and the puzzle becomes more complex.

Can Vic solve Ariel’s problem before the blackmailer ruins her life? Will Ariel convince Vic to give their failed relationship another chance?

  2. Thanks for the compliments. Vic Fallon is a former cop from Sandusky, Ohio who was wounded in the line of duty. He only takes cases when he needs the money or is bored, and is footloose. The only relationship between "Lido Key" and "The Bundle" is the hero, and I designed this series with that concept in mind. He gets involved with a different woman in each installment. This is a throwback to the noir fiction of Raymond Chandler, Mickey Spillane and Donald E. Westlake, with a dash of Elmore Leonard thrown in.

I'm also working on the next installment in my Nick Seven romance thriller series that began with the bestselling "Memories Die Last."

    Happy reading!

  4. Congratulations on the book! It sounds good. How do you fit in writing along with your other interests?

  5. I've found sleep to be highly overrated. Seriously, I fit writing in whenever there's time, which isn't always easy. I try to devote at least one of my days off each week to writing (blogs, books, promo) and a couple of hours several evenings a week. That increases when I'm faced with a deadline or edits.

If you're a fan of the classic crime movies of the forties and fifties but told with a modern twist, this is the book for you!

  7. Oh I love old crime movies of the forties! I love the banter between the hero and the dames and a hero that is cool, hard, but will go out on a limb for a lady, is one of my favorites.

I'm heading over to get it now. :)

Do each of your Vic Fallon stories have a happy for now kind of ending?

  8. Katie, all of the stories have a happy for now ending. In fact, every romance I've ever written ends that way. Guess I'm a bit of a commitment-phobe and it transfers to my characters. The wisecracking banter in this one was a lot of fun to write, and Vic Fallon is definitely a hero from the old school.

Debby, this is the second in the Vic Fallon series, but I have another series feturing a former CIA spook named Nick Seven, most recently featured in the bestselling "Memories Die Last." Check my website for all of my titles.

  9. Tim,

Sorry late coming to the party but I have to know is there reverse discrimination being a male in romance biz?

  10. Donna, you wouldn't believe the rocks I've had to break to get noticed in this field! I'm not sure I'd call it discrimination but there's a definite bias out there. I've had reviewers tell me 'no way', a blogger trashed one of my books because of my gender (I doubt she even read it) and when I've attended romance writer get togethers, quite a few have outright shunned me.

Surprisingly, I'm not bitter about any of this. I'm a pretty good writer (witness my awards and bestseller status) and I believe there's room for all of us. I've also never used my job as a reviewer to get even. That would be petty.

    Thanks for dropping by!
