HARD AS STONE by Sara Brookes
Brady thrives on saving patients in his busy emergency room, but when things don't go according to plan, nothing prepares him for a chance encounter. There's something familiar, and mysterious, about the downright sexy-as-hell stranger he encounters on a busy Chicago street.
In Garrett's world there are no coincidences. He's been standing as the doctor's secret guardian for years. Driven by a burning need Brady unknowingly awakened more than a decade ago, Garrett finally breaks his silence. He steps in to show Brady there's more to life than rescuing those in need.
Roused by their desperate passion for one another, their desire reaches an explosive breaking point. Brady realizes one night isn't enough, but Garrett is bound by rules he can't change. Now Brady's healing touch may save more than just a life - it may just save Garrett's soul.

Sara Brookes is a multi-published author who has always been fascinated by the strange, the unusual, the twisted and the lost (tortured heroes are her personal favorite). She is an action movie junkie, addicted to coffee and has been known to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing RPG video games. Despite all this, she is a romantic at heart and is always a sucker for an excellent love story. Born and bred in Virginia, Sara still lives there with her husband and daughter. The entire family is owned by two cats, Galahad and Loki, who graciously allow the family to cater to their every desire.

Good morning Sara and super congrats on the new EC release HARD AS STONE!
ReplyDeleteThe excerpt was wonderful, and sad, and it broke my heart as Brady was losing it. What an incredible opening for a story! I can't wait to read more!
Tell us about Garrett and how he is connected to Brady - if you can without spoiling anything. ;) This is a very interesting story line, I love it!
Enjoy your party today and thanks for the fantastic prize! Hope HARD AS STONE is a bestseller for you!
Thank you so much, DeNita! I'm thrilled to be here partying today. :^)
ReplyDeleteExplaining Garrett's connection to Brady is really hard to do without spoiling everything completely! I don't keep you hanging long in the story, but I'm going to keep you in suspense today.
Let's just say Garrett is very much a part of Brady's life, even though Brady doesn't know it. He's a silent guardian watching over the doctor, a protector on a mission that involves all of humanity. (And no, he'd not Batman *g*) Garrett knows Brady's breakdown is the time where he needs to step forward and allow his presence to be known because he along holds the power to help.
Thanks for stopping by everyone, let's pop open the virtual champagne!
I like the tortured soul stories too, I'm a sucker for them. What a great teaser for the story, I'd love to read it to find out all the background. Who do you read when you have the time?

Thanks so much for stopping by Linda! It really depends on what kind of mood I'm in as to who read. I have favorite go-to authors in various different genres, most of which are 'auto-buys' for me whenever they have something new hitting the shelves. To name a few: Cherise Sinclair, J D Robb, Jaci Burton, Lauren Dane, Joey W Hill, Stephen King, Megan Hart, Deborah Cooke, Rachel Caine (and really, I could go on here all day) share shelf space on my bookshelves.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new release.it sounds really good.Love the cover.

Congrats on the new release! It sounds great! How do you choose your character's names?

Thanks for stopping by elaing8, Virginia, StacieD and Amy S!
ReplyDeleteI think covers very much sell books. I, personally, have bought books just because the book cover on the shelf in the store caught my eye. Of course, I don't by on cover alone, but blurb has to catch my attention as well. But sometimes, a cover *can* cause me to pick up a title to a closer look. I absolutely loved, loved, loved this cover when the art department at EC sent to to me.
Virginia, like book covers sometimes, I'll read anything that catches my eye. I tend to read an overwhelming majority of the romance genre, but there is a lot of non-romance sci-fi, fantasy and even horror that I like to get lost in.
Most of the time, Amy, the characters let me know what they want to be called. I have started a book before with no idea what the character's names were going to be. Sometimes I have to get to know their personalities, their quirks, before I can put a name to them.
Hi Sara,
ReplyDeleteI just picked up a copy of Hard as Stone and can't wait to read Brady's story. What upcoming releases do we have to look forward to?

Congrats on your new release. How many books do you published? Have you written any series? What would you like to write but have not been able to?

Do you try to have a balance of paranormal elements with the romance or does one override the other?

Congrats on the new release, it sounds really good. Am looking forward to reading it.

Thanks for swinging by and helping my celebrate Cathy, Debby, Leni and Mary.
ReplyDeleteThank so much for the support Cathy - I certainly hope you enjoy it! Right now I'm putting the finishing touches on what I hope will be my next release, a m/m/f contemporary erotic romance about storm chasers.
Debby, I've have 12 published stories, all in varying lengths and genres of romance--even different heat levels (varying from hot to scorching). Writing series is one of my favorite things, so I have several. There's a paranormal/urban fantasy romance series titled Rebirth. A futuristic romance series known as the Star Runner Saga and a sci-fi erotic romance series, Sypricon Masters. I would love, love to dig into cyberpunk on day, right now it's just about having the time.
Leni, depending on the length of the story, I always try to find a good balance. I think because Garrett keeps exactly what he is a complete secret from Brady until the end the paranormal isn't at the forefront in the beginning. At first, Brady thinks Garrett is is a human just like him.
I love to play video games, Mary. In fact, since I'm hope today partying for this new release, my daughter and I are playing LEGO Batman in between me answering your questions!
Congrats on your latest release! Sounds like a good one :-) Do you have a favorite scene from this book?
ReplyDeletesmaccall AT comcast.net
Thank you for stopping by Bookwyrm! I do have a favorite scene in this book. Brady comes to Garrett's place for the first time and there's something about the utter despair and exhaustion he sees in Brady that makes him want to take care of the man. He ends up cooking him a meal and they share it together while they talk. There's just something that is so simple about it even thought it says SO much about how Garrett feels about Brady.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the idea of a secret Guardian. Is there a particular reason you chose Chicago?

Congrats on your new release! Great excerpt!
ReplyDeleteWhere's your favourite vacation spot?
chey127 at hotmail dot com
Thanks for stopping by marybelle and chey!
ReplyDeleteWhen I started writing this book, I already had a few cities in mind where the story would take place. I needed a older city that had certain kinds of architecture to fit along with some aspects of the story. Chicago ended up fitting that bill perfectly.
Chey, any place warm and tropical at the moment because it's so cold here in Virginia right now! LOL
Congrats on the release of Hard as Stone. It sounds like a great story.
