Celebrating A New Mother And Son Release For Buffi BeCraft

Today we're celebrating a new release written by the mother-son writing dual of Buffi BeCraft and Randall BeCraft. It's their first co-authored release and we wish them many more to come!

Buffi BeCraft-Woodall now writing as Buffi BeCraft

It all began in seventh grade math class when Buffi decided that writing a novel was a much better use for her notebook than taking notes. Six weeks later, she was grounded from reading (gasp!) and the grand epic space adventure was put away so that she could actually participate in class. Buffi never developed a love of math, but she did pass and did get her library card back.

About fifteen years and two kids later, Buffi took up the mighty pencil and notebook again to stave off the insanity of waiting for kids to finish eight-hour tutorials. Homeschooling seemed a good idea at the time, but eventually she decided to return her children to public school and let the professionals do the job they'd been trained for. To this day, she has a deep respect for teachers and no qualms about telling them how great they are. Anyway, by that time the writing bug had taken firm hold and she was determined to once again write the next great epic. This time, she picked straight fantasy. That book got a lot further than the seventh grade try but still wound up in the same box in the closet and she started looking for a new writing project.

When her mother said that no one could write a paranormal or fantasy book she'd understand, the challenge was on. Buffi completed WEREMONES a year later. Her mom loves the Blue-Collar Werewolf books and avidly waits for each new book. Even the non-werewolf ones!

These days, Buffi is writing as Buffi BeCraft and has recently started a new series co-authored with her grown son, Randall. What's it like writing with your son? Well, Buffi believes it's like writing with anyone else, except that you have a better idea of what's going through the other's brain. Randall thinks writing with his mom is in one word: Awesome! The best part for him is creating new characters and seeing what strange adventure that they'll go through next.

The problem isn't talking to the dead. Plenty of people do that every day. The real issue is when they talk back.... and they won't leave you alone!

JAYWALKING TO DEMONSPACE by Buffi BeCraft and Randall BeCraft

Ten Hughes is a guy with the usual problems. Riiight. 1) Find a a good day care that takes kids with special problems. - Does being dead count? 2) Show up for traffic court. - Apparently, you can be arrested for dimensional travel without a liscense. 3) Diversify career options. - You can't call it ghost-hunting if the ghosts keep showing up! Mechanic by day, dimensional commuter in his dreams. Both worlds collide when Ten takes a job as a medium to investigate haunted house. Now the question is: Can he stay ahead of the learning curve enough to keep from being eaten by wraiths, arrested by demons, and avert a preschool poltergeist tantrum of hellish proportions.

  6. Thanks everyone!

I had a blast writing Jaywalking to Demonspace. It was so much fun having another person to bounce ideas off of.

Watching the storyline and the world develop with someone else's input was interesting. We had as much fun arguing as we did writing.

  7. Wow, that is cool that you write with your son.

It's wonderful when parents can do things with their kids together.

    I'm impressed.

  9. Congratulations on your release. This sounds like a very good book. Did you have any trouble getting your ideals to merge together for the book? Who's ideal was it to write a book together?

  10. As a matter of fact, Randall and I are plotting out the next set of chaotic adventures for Ten Hughes.

We had so much fun creating Demonspace that we plan to set most of the next book there and another mirror world.

  11. It was origanaly my moms idea, me and her brainstormed every chance we had. We would come up with the craziest ideas, and them made laws to go by and try and get the baisics on how anything worked so everything could make since. and we would agree and disagree but made a point to come to common ground.and over all, questioning each others ideas and understanding made the writing and editting prosses that much more enjoyable.

  16. We talk and discuss the major plot. Randall does a lot of the research and tells me about his findings.
Then, once we had the basics down, I wrote out the rough (and I mean rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrough draft) Randall took a turn at the draft, filling in ideas that I left out and adding in the fight scenes and tweaking them.
THEN, I went back over the book and tweaked some more to blend our styles of writing.
AND then the editor got ahold of it and we went over it again, lol.
--so in essence, there was a lot of co-operation involved.
