Celebrating Declan Sands' First Release

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog, we're celebrating the very first release for (not-so-new) author Declan Sands.

DUSTED by Declan Sands

Blood-Hound Book One

Bounty hunter Matthew Blood is a Bloodhound shifter, so tracking things comes naturally to him. But when one of his skips gets blasted out of a fourth floor window, Matt goes after the only other person in the vicinity, and gets fairy-smacked himself.

Rum leaves the safety of the mound to bust a fairy dust ring and rescue some captured fairies. In the process, he quickly finds himself the target of the sexy bounty hunter tracking one of the dealers. Trapped and being pursued on multiple fronts, Rum asks Blood for help.

Blood is happy to lend a hand, but he soon discovers fairy dust isn't the only addictive thing about a fairy.

  2. Why the new name? Is it because this is gay romance? Sounds like a fun read.

  3. Hey DeNita!

Thanks for having me. I'm really excited about this series. I wanted to do a series about a bounty hunter and I hit on the idea of using a Bloodhound shifter because, obviously, he would be really good at sniffing people out. LOL!

    Here's the series premise:

Matthew Blood is a bounty hunter. He’s also from a planet in the next solar system, which consists of canine shifters, the origin of Earth’s domesticated dog and wild canine breeds like the wolf and the fox. He was with a search party that came to Earth to pick up one of his comrades, a simple drop and gather operation, and he got left behind. He knows his people won’t be coming back to Earth for a at least a decade. Until they do, he has to do something to survive, so he does what comes naturally to a blood hound. He hunts. But rather than eat his prey, he turns it into the local cops. He’s a bounty hunter. Blood thinks it’s a strange arrangement. But it pays the bills pretty handily. And he’s good at it. All he has to do is follow his nose…straight to trouble.

  4. I love the sound of this book and the series premise has me drooling to get my hands on the books asap :D How many books are planned? (just so I can adjust the funds for them ;))

Please don't enter me for the prize as I don't think I could use a target GC from the UK :D

  5. Good question, Donna.

I created Declan for the same reason I created s.i. for my young adult writing, my readers have certain expectations for what they will get when they pick up one of my books. Whenever I write outside those expectations, I'll do it under a different name so readers know exactly what they're getting.

s.i. offers readers a sweeter read, Declan offers something that stretches the boundaries a bit. For example, Declan's next book will be a m/m/f menage short, much steamier than Sam generally writes. Many of my readers would still enjoy it, but some wouldn't.

Actually, writing under different aliases is very freeing, allowing me to write my stories exactly as I see them in my mind.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Hey Ilona!

Thank you so much for stopping by. I'll tell you what, if you win you can have a download of the book instead (if you'd like one #:0). I don't want you to miss out just because you're in the UK.

I don't have the series planned out past the next book, which will be entitled FORKED, because Blood will be engaged in helping his boss, a snake shifter, keep his business going when the government sends out a sexy investigator to try and shut it down.

I anticipate that the series will go out at least 3 books and then I'll evaluate if it makes sense to write more.

    Happy Reading!

  9. Hello Declan!
Congratulations on the new release! I love shifters and Romantic Suspense so this sounds like a story I will love. I also enjoy reading m/m romance. This sounds like a perfect trifecta!

  11. Here's another fun little taste of the book:

Bounty hunter Matthew Blood always gets his man -- even if that man is a fairy.

    ~~*~~

Pain-filled moans and the meaty sound of ripping flesh accompanied the gunshots exploding around them. As Matt emerged out of the stairwell on the main floor, he skidded to a stop. Littlejohn was kneeling on the hard floor, firing a really big gun.

A body was sprawled across the top of the stairs, the guard’s sightless eyes staring blankly past Littlejohn. His throat had been torn out.

That explained where Littlejohn got the gun.

Matt started to shift back so he could help but Littlejohn suddenly stopped firing and lifted the barrel of the rifle as the door flew open. His partner, Petra, skidded in on her knees and landed next to Matt.

The closing door was peppered with bullets.
She looked up at him from the ground. “Hey, Blood. You know how to shoot one of these?”
Littlejohn glanced back and shrugged. “Cat’s out of the bag.”

Matt quickly shifted and took the rifle from her.

She grinned. “Naked gun fighting. I could get used to this.”

Matt skimmed a glance over Littlejohn’s long, sexy back, fixating on his nicely rounded ass.

    “Couldn’t we all?”

Littlejohn fired his rifle, and a muffled cry told them he’d scored a hit. He didn’t turn as he said, “Keep your eyes on the bad guys, Blood, or my foot’s gonna be so far up your ass you’ll have to pick rubber out of your teeth.”

Matt lifted his eyebrows. “Never say ‘pick rubber from your teeth’ to a gay guy, man.”

Petra tugged a revolver from the waistband of her jeans. “Don’t bother with the charm, Blood. He’s firmly in the other camp. He doesn’t like to show his goodies to guys. I don’t even think he drops trou when he showers at the station.”

Blood grinned. “He showers in his boxers?”

Laughing, she slid bullets into the chamber of her revolver.

“Can we talk about my goodies later?” Littlejohn snarled. “I hear footsteps in the stairwell above. I think we’re about to get more company.”

    “Absolutely!” Petra and Matt agreed.

“Okay, that didn’t come out right,” Littlejohn muttered grumpily.

  12. Yes, let's about your goodies, Littlejohn! LOL. I would love to read this book. Must add to my TBR list! Okay, now set me straight. What all names do you write under, Declan?

  13. Hey Ashley!

I also write mainstream sensual and erotic romance under Sam Cheever and young adult under s.i. decker. I write both romantic suspense and fantasy as Sam and Declan. So far I've only written fantasy as s.i.

Thanks so much for stopping by and asking the great question!

  14. Ah!! So glad to "meet" your Declan persona, Sam! And I must be living under a rock, because I didn't know about your SI one, either! Are you writing full time these days? How do you decide what you're going to work on on any given day? Do you schedule your writing by day/week/month? Because that's a whole lot of different kinds of stories, and well, I'd love to get all of them as soon as I can :)

  15. Hey girl!

LOL, I do write pretty much full time. I occasionally still take a consulting job in Corporate America, but fortunately those are fewer all the time. Writing is my real love and I consider myself very lucky to be able to do it.

There are two types of "schedules" I work with. One is in my head. I know when I need to start the next book in a series, for example, so that readers of the series won't have to wait more than a year for each book. I'm also driven by publisher deadlines. For example, the sequel to my new paranormal, FOXED, is scheduled for June. I'm finishing that up now so it can move through the publishing process in time for that early June release. I have another Blood-Hound book on the schedule for July, so I'll need to get it done in May. I squeeze my Indie published works in between and factor in the special projects I write for Halloween and Christmas every year. Add to that my promotional work and blogging and it makes for a pretty busy schedule, but I work pretty much 7 days a week and somehow it all manages to get done. #:0)

  19. Did you make Matthew a bounty hunter so he could have a bit more playing ground to play outside of the law?

  20. Hey Sherry,

Thanks so much. I'm glad you stopped by!

  21. Good question, bn100. In all my names I've used variations of my real name and/or nicknames. I wanted to have names I could relate to so I kept them as familiar as possible.

Thanks so much for dropping in!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Debby!

Nope. I have 11 dogs, and a few of them are in the hound family, but I've never had a bloodhound. The breed appealed to me for this because hounds are impossible to divert once they've caught a scent. I have a basset hound mix and, when she puts her nose to the ground her brain just disengages. #:0) But she's very sweet and cute.

    Thanks for the great question.

  23. Hey Leni!

The flexibility is definitely one appeal of a bounty hunter. #:0) But if you've ever read my Honeybun romantic suspense series you'll know that I don't let irritating little things like laws slow me down. LOL I wanted to write about bounty hunters because the story possibilities are nearly endless and I think they're romantic characters. Like pirates...only on land...and good...not bad. Okay, they're nothing like pirates. Snorf!

Thanks for stopping in to visit!

  24. That second excerpt was hysterical. Any meaning between the name Littlejohn and him not wanting to show his "goodies?"
Can't wait to read this book. Sounds amazing.
