THE DEAD DETECTIVE AGENCY by Peg Herring

Young secretary Tori Van Camp wakes one morning on a luxurious ocean liner
where she is offered whatever a person might desire: food, clothes,
recreation, and the companionship of congenial people. But Tori has no
memory of booking a cruise. What she does have is a vivid recollection of
being shot point blank in the chest.

With the help of the stunningly handsome Mike and the unnervingly serene
Nancy, Tori soon learns the purpose of her voyage. Still, she is haunted
by the image of the gun, the crack of the shot, and the malevolent face of
the shooter. Who wanted her dead, and why?

Determined to find out, Tori enlists the help of Seamus, an eccentric but
shrewd detective. Together they embark on an investigation unlike anything
Tori ever thought possible. Death is all around, the future is uncertain, and if Tori does not act quickly, two people she cares about are prime candidates for murder.

The Dead Detective Agency marks the start of the new Dead Detective Mystery Series.

According to Leslie Brown, senior editor at LL-Publications, "Peg Herring navigates the twin worlds of life and death with all the skill of a master sailor, or in this case, a really awesome cruise ship director. The Dead Detective Agency is a light-hearted book about the journey of dying, the regrets of a half-lived life, and the guides who help us make sense of it all."

  4. Hi Peg!

My question is...how do you get yourself through the writer's block days and discipline yourself to keep writing anyway?

Thanks for the chance to win! My e-mail is allysonmeyer at gmail dot com.

  5. Thanks for all the good wishes. Allyson, I have experienced periods when things just won't fall together, mostly because LIFE gets in the way. I find a long walk helps with the little snags, a long ride in the car helps with more difficult problems, and only time helps with the worst of them!
I'm at work on the second Dead Detective Mystery, and it just "took off" in my mind after weeks of struggling to get a good picture of what it will be. Now I just need to write all that good stuff in my head down!

  6. Hi Peg and happy release day. Hope you're doing something super fun to celebrate..besides hanging out with us..lol :-)

You are anew author for me and I can't wait to learn more about your books and this new series. I do very much enjoy mysteries as well as romances. speaking of which is there a romance in this story?

And I wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying the stories about ghosts which is getting to be a popular paranormal character.

Good for you and I'll check back later for your answers.

  7. Good question, Katie, and actually there is a romantic angle in the book. Nothing creepy, though, like when Patrick used Whoopi to get back to Demi--that was weird!

  9. To answer some of the questions posed here: I hope for three Dead Detective Mysteries, and I'm working on the second, DEAD FOR THE MONEY. The next book will explore my wacky view of the Afterlife a bit more and hopefully entertain readers with "What comes after?"
As to when #2 will be done, I really can't say, but I'm writing as fast as I can!

  13. Estella,
I have no clue! My years in church and the literature of the English classroom must have formed an idea in my mind of what I'd like to find on the Other Side, but it's all for fun, of course!

  17. Hi Peg,

You're a new author to me and I'm so excited to find out about you. Can you tell me a bit more about your other books?

Also wondering if you could tell us if there is a "live" person working with the dead detectives or if the dead are trying to solve the mystery on their own...that is without giving away too much ;)

Good luck with the book and putting you on my "watch" list!

  18. Jen, thanks for the good wishes!
And Sharon: First, yes, I mixed "live" with "not", which makes the stories parallel. It was a bit difficult to write, but interesting, IMO.
As to my other books: quite different from this one. My historical series started in 2010 with HER HIGHNESS' FIRST MURDER. I've always been fascinated with Elizabeth Tudor, so she is a major character, and the series will follow her life under Henry VIII, then Edward VI, then Mary I, and finally as queen herself.
My stand-alone, GO HOME AND DIE, was a fun project for me because I re-visited the '60s for a nostalgic mystery, and my husband served as my research, being a Vietnam vet. All are on Amazon, of course.
