SOJOURN WITH A STRANGER by Keta Diablo

Penniless when she arrives in Norfolk, her mother and father drowned at sea, Raine Brinsley longs to return home to her grandfather in Maine. When Derek Stafford, owner of a large plantation, offers a solution to her dilemma, she's stunned, if not outraged. She'd prefer to fulfill the contract to have his child and forget about him and his self-serving scheme. If only she could dispel the passion he's awakened in her.

Derek Stafford's only wish is to father an heir to Stafford House, thus securing his future. He didn't count on the Scottish lass with green eyes interfering with his well-laid plan. After one night in her arms, guilt, not to mention the loss of his soul, becomes his penance. He'll do anything to win her back, anything to quench the hunger tormenting his soul.

  1. Happy Saturday Keta and super congrats on the new release! Love that cover and what a great idea for a story!

Where did the idea for this story come from? Do you believe in ghosts or just enjoy writing about the possibilities?

Here you have another book coming out next week, can you tell us about that?

Best of luck with the new book and have fun today at your party!!

  5. Sojourn with a Stranger sounds good. What other genres do you write? Is there a genre you want to write in the future? Is there a genre you will never write?

  6. Hi ladies, and hats off to DeNita for her wonderful support of authors.

Thanks for stopping by today. Let's see if I can answer the questions.

I write erotic romance (male/female) and I also write gay fiction. If you're a reader of male/male my Crossroads series (four novellas) are a best-selling series. Not for the faint of heart, the books are graphic and intense. But with me, the story always come first. Crossroads main character has the ability to commune with the dead, so these are paranormal novellas, filled with suspense and mystery.

I have several cover artists I work with. I LOVE the cover for Sojourn and agree it really captured the essence of the story. Michelle Houston did my cover for Holding On To Heaven, which is an epic Civil War story spanning two generations. This is the story about twins who were separated at birth and meet up through unusual circumstances 20 years later. I'm very picky about my covers and always try to portray on the cover the basic theme of the story.

Land of Falling Stars is one of the first books I wrote several years ago, but I love the story of Gavin and Sophia. Childhood friends, Sophia was engaged to marry Jessee (although Gavin has always loved her) and through a horrible fluke, Gavin accidentally shoots Jesse during the war. You can imagine what trouble this causes when Gavin has to tell Sophia what happened on the battlefield.

DeNita asked if I believe in ghosts. hmmmm. Let me say I don't disbelieve in them. I've had a few incidents in my own life that lead me to believe some spirits have the ability to cross-over. I love writing about them though -- such an intriguing subject.

I'm not certain whether Sojourn will have another book. I don't always know that until I see how well (or not well) the books is accepted by readers. I think you'll love this story. It's not your typical romance.

And finally I want to say a little about Where The Rain Is Made, a paranormal shifter themed around the Cheyenne dog soldiers. This story has done remarkably well, has won numerous awards and has recently been nominated by Authors After Dark for a Bookie Award in the best E-Novel category for 2010. If you love Native American shape shifters, this is the book for you. You can read many five-star reviews on Kindle: http://amzn.to/ev0I3Y

  8. Congrats on the new release.

What 3 words would you use to describe both Derek and Raine?

  9. Hi Amy, thanks so much for stopping by. And a huge thanks for reading my books!

elaing8, Words to describe Derek and Raine.

Derek is a mystery to begin with and rather cold-hearted. I would describe him as ambitious, a lust for wealth because he'll do anything to obtain a male heir for Stafford House and the last word to describe him would be tortured (over many things).

Raine is a breath of fresh air, with a lot of pride in her Scottish heritage. She also has a good head on her shoulders, or did, until she met Derek Stafford. She is insanely attracted to him even though she hates to admit it. Because of this, and because of her need to get back to her ailing grandfather in Maine, she accepts an outlandish proposal from Derek Stafford to have his child for a large sum of money. This story is complex and includes a killer who will stop at nothing to hold the title to Stafford House.

    Hope you enjoy! Keta

  12. Congratulations on the latest releases Keta! I absolutely loved Sojourn With A Stranger and have to warn readers- make sure you have plenty of time to read because once you start this book you won't want to put it down! Derek and Raine are wonderful and the other characters add so much to the story. (Okay, I wanted to kick Derek's brother in the hind end, but that's good, right?)

Looking forward to Holding on to Heaven!

Do you ever find that some readers have a completely different interpretation of your work? For example maybe you don't see a particular story line in a certain light, but they do?
This book looks amazing, and I'm putting on my list right now!

  18. HI Keta! Just wanted to drop by and say hi. I do have a question for you...I'm reading your Crossroads series (read book 1 & 2 and I bought 3 & 4), which I've really enjoyed. The question is...what do you think is the appeal of m/m romance/fiction for women? Why do women read it?

  26. Hi everyone, and a HUGE thank you for stopping by.

Let me see if I can answer some of your questions.

Crossroads (gay fiction)People love Frank McGuire from the Crossroads series. I do plan to write two more novellas because I think people are not quite ready to let go of Rand and Frank. I wish I could give a date, but my writing schedule has been so heavy lately, I'm not sure when they will be released. Frank was quite controversial after the first book (the semi-forced seduction of Rand). I knew this was chancy, but it's the way I saw Frank. As it turns out, readers love him by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th novella. So, Woohoo!

Someone asked about my favorite genre to write. I'm really partial to historical/paranormal, like Where The Rain Is Made and Sojourn With A Stranger. These novels are almost always full-length, where my male/male stories are generally novellas. Both are fascinating to write even though they are on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Some of my fave authors are historical writers: Joanna Bourne (loved her Spymaster series), Helen Kirkman and Roberta Gellis. I'm sorry to say I don't have much reading time anymore, so when I select a book I'm very picky. I miss reading and wish I could set aside some time every day. It doesn't usually work out that way. I also love, love the book called Windflower by a husband and wife team (Laura London) written I think in the 80's. I have read this book so many times the pages are tattered now. It's a pirate novel, and it's one of those books you love or dislike. I'm in the first category, found their writing very descriptive and even funny, at times.

I don't do too much celebrating after a release because there's more work to do for the book. One can write 100 books but unless you let readers know they're available, it won't do you much good. I'm really big on reaching out to readers/bloggers because I realize how very important they are.

The full-length novels take me several months of hard writing, the novellas a little shorter. Some books come easy -- Where The Rain Is Made -- and some need a lot of thought and revision. Believe me, there are many days I think a 4th grader writes better than me and I hit the "delete" button often while I'm writing.

I'm a panster type writer. I think and think about the plot, the characters, every scene until I have it down in my head. Then I sit down and write. I seldom use note cards, outlines or drafts. I put my butt in the chair and write -- lol.

Thank you all so much for leaving a comment. It is much appreciated! If you happen to read any of my books, please leave a comment on Amazon or Goodreads. Word of mouth if the best way to get the word out!

Namaste, and I hope everyone has a wonderful week, Keta
