Celebrating the Release of Lorelei James' ALL JACKED UP

Today we're celebrating the release of ALL JACKED UP, the 8th book in Lorelei James' Rough Rider Series

When I'm not squirreled away behind my laptop writing fun, sexy, contemporary erotic romances set in the modern day Wild West, I can be found reading everything under the sun, practicing yoga until I’m a pretzel, shootin' my .22, watching the Professional Bull Riders tour on Versus, and running a kid's taxi service, all in the guise of avoiding housework and rustlin' up vittles.

Why do I have a particular fondness for all things western? Well, I'm a fourth generation South Dakotan, living in the Black Hills, which is chock-full of interesting characters, including cowboys, Indians, ranchers, and bikers. The geographical diversity of the surrounding area showcases mountains, plains, and badlands. Living in and writing about rural settings gives me a unique perspective, especially since I'm not writing historical westerns. Through my fictional world, I can show the ideals and the cowboy way of life are still very much alive.

I also write a dark, gritty mystery series under the name Lori Armstrong and my novel Snow Blind just won the 2009 Shamus Award from the Private Eye Writers of America for Best Paperback Original! Check it out at http://www.loriarmstrong.com/

...Pulling off the ultimate con... if they can keep from pulling off their clothes.

Keely McKay knows Jack—and Jack Donohue is a certified pain in her Wranglers. The lone girl in the prolific McKay family, Keely needs another man giving her orders like she needs a hole in her boot. What she does need is a restoration specialist so she can open her physical therapy clinic—and prove she’s left her wild-child days behind. That means dealing with buttoned-down, uptight Jack.

Jack is this close to securing a career make-or-break project, until he learns his lack of marital status puts him out of contention. When the notoriously hot-tempered and hot-bodied Keely begs him for help, he proposes a crazy idea. He’ll oversee her project—if she acts the part of his loving fiancĂ©e.

Their sizzling lust makes it all too easy to go from butting heads to knocking boots—but outside the bedroom they’re as mismatched as ever. The McKays remind Jack of the humble upbringing he left behind, and cowgirl Keely feels she doesn’t measure up to Jack’s big-city lifestyle.

When the dust settles, Jack and Keely must face the fact they’re not fooling anyone but themselves—or they’ll risk losing the real deal.

Warning: this book by Lorelei James contains one hot-blooded cowgirl and one cool-headed businessman in a stripped-down, revved-up game of sexual truth or dare.

  1. Good morning Lorelei and super congrats on the new release!!!

It sounds fantastic and I can't wait to read it!

This is book 8 in your Rough Riders Series, but these are all stand alone books, right or is there a reading order? How are the books connected?

Enjoy your special day and best of luck with the new book!

  2. Thanks for having me here today!

The books can be read as stand alones, but I'll be honest, reading them in order is probably a better way to go. I say that because I am one of those readers who has to read a series in order. In fact, today I'm starting Kindred In Death by JD Robb.

The books are based around a Wyoming ranching family and each book features a member of that family. So book 8, All Jacked Up, is about the lone girl in the McKay family.

    Reading order is:

    Long Hard Ride
    Rode Hard, Put Up Wet
    Cowgirl Up and Ride
    Tied Up, Tied Down
    Rough, Raw, and Ready
    Branded As Trouble
Strong, Silent Type (in the Wild Ride Anthology)
    Shoulda Been A Cowboy
    All Jacked Up

  3. This has to be one of the best books in this series though they are all fantastic. They are books that you can read over and over again and each time find something that you missed or forgot. The biggest problem that I have found with them is once you start one, you won't stop until the book is finished!

    Good job, Lorelei!

  4. I have loved each and every one of these books (and own them all already so I do not need to be added to the hopper.) I love the way the characters grow throughout the series, but each book is different from the book before. There are different issues and different relationships in each of the books. Sometimes when you read a series it feels as though the newest book is just a reissue of the previous books, but that is definitely not the case with these Rough Rider books.

  5. Hey L,

I love this series and I must agree with Teri, my only problem is when I finish one, I'm ready for the next McKay. This series ROCKS and I can't wait for Raising Kane (a.k.a Buck). I hope that Jessie and Brandt get their happily ever after. Waiting to next year is going to be pure torture. *sigh*

    Great interview!

  6. Hello Lorelei,

I just finished Rough, Raw, and Ready. It was great! I had to get this one before the others in the series because it was the only one in the book store. I will be looking for more books written by you. Has your friends or family given you grief for writing these types of stories? If they did what was your reaction?

  10. Have read the first four books in this series and loved them! They're fun and steamy. And with Christmas coming up I have the other books on my wishlist. How long do you see this series continuing? Do you see an end point (I know we readers hope not)?

  11. Honistie,

My husband reads the erotic books, my parents and daughters do not...I have other family members who read them. I understand erotic romance is not everyone's cup of tea, so I don't sweat it.

The important thing for any author, no matter what I'm writing, is to not let the "gee, what would my 100 year old grandmother think of this raunchy scene?" affect how I write. I have to be true to the characters and the story and the genre. Erotic readers want steamy sex scenes. I feel it's my duty to provide them, Lol!

  12. Lorelei,

I am happy that you provide the raunchy scenes for us fans! My husband is not much of a reader but he also enjoyed your book, Rough, Raw and Ready. I hope when I get to the book store there will be other books written by you. I am going to look for your mystery books too. They looked really interesting.

  16. Okat I have to admit this is my first time hearing of you Lorelei and your books so I did a litlle research and this sounds like a hot little series that's definitely being added to my WL. Love them cowboys....

  17. Almost forgot I also would to say how cool I think it is where you grew up. That has to help make you better writer in genre since you know all you need to know about them cowboys and bull-riding. Sounds like an exciting life, why not put it together on paper from what I've read you've done a great job at this so far. So do you plan to keep writing in this series? Do you ever get burned out writing writing these books?
I was just curious cause you live it and write it, but like I said living it makes you a more exsperienced writer to write about it.
    Good Luck

  24. I went shopping with my daughters and came back to lots of comments! Wow, such great things you all have said about the series - yay!

Tracy D- and Val - and Mitz - I hope you do give the books a shot!

Joder, I do see an end point for the RR series, but it won't be for awhile, since I have 6 McKay cousins left to write books for...

Virginia, I find myself reading paranormal romance, since that seems to be a genre I'm not writing in so far...

Mitz, I'm not burned out, but I've written quite a few erotic cowboy stories in a row that I'm glad for the break that I get to work on a mystery for the next few months.

  25. 6 more McKay cousins....Oh Yeah!!! I've only read 3 of these books so far...but love them. Looking forward to more. Congrats!!!

  26. Hi Lorelei!

All Jacked Up is a must read! I absolutely loved it, but that came as no surprise to me because each book in this series has ended up on my keeper shelves. I can say enough good things about the Rough Riders series. Your romances are about so much more than the love scenes (which are steamy hot and so well written).

Congrats on the Shamus! I haven't read any of your mysteries yet, but have heard such great things about them, that I've added them to my TBR.

  27. Hi Lorelei,
Congrats on your new release. You are a new-to-me author and have only heard high praises for your Rough Rider series. With the recent push to read more cowboy stories, your name has consistently been mentioned. I'll be sure to had this series to my wishlist.

What kind of research was involved with this series?

  29. Hello Again,
I love love love all these Rough Rider stories. I've read them all so far in order, have just read Rough, Raw, and Ready, and am waiting for a print copy of Branded as Trouble. I'm going to stay in order, and I like having the print books, so I'll wait, but I'm looking forward to continuing the series with great anticipation. Best to you on this new release.

  30. I also wanted to come back and say how excited I am that with the book Shoulda Been a Cowboy that you've presented a physically damaged character. As a physically challenged person myself I enjoy seeing characters that represent me and my life.

  31. Anyone that has not read this series yet, really needs to, it is awesome.

Lorelei, congrats again on the new release and the award!
