Celebrating The Audio Release Of Pauline Baird Jones' THE KEY

Today we celebrate the audio release of Pauline Baird Jones' award-winning novel THE KEY.

Pauline is the award-winning author of eight novels of action-adventure, suspense, romantic suspense and comedy-mystery. She's also written two non-fiction books, ADAPTING YOUR NOVEL FOR FILM and MADE-UP MAYHEM which released August 2008. Her seventh novel, OUT OF TIME, an action-adventure romance set in World War II, is a 2007 EPPIE winner in the single title/mainstream category. Her eighth novel, THE KEY, released from LL Dreamspell, is the Dream Realm Awards winner in its category and won a bronze medal in the Independent Publisher awards.

Originally from Wyoming , Pauline and her family moved from New Orleans to Texas before Katrina.

An Air Force pilot - the best of the best to be assigned to this mission - Sara isn't afraid to travel far beyond the Milky Way on an assignment that takes her into a galaxy torn apart by a long and bitter warfare between the Dusan and the Gadi.

After she's shot down and manages to land safely on an inhospitable planet, Sara encounters Kiernan Fyn - a seriously hot alien with a few secrets of his own - he's a member of a resistance group called the Ojemba, lead by the mysterious and ruthless Kalian.

A mysterious, hidden city on the planet brings Sara closer to the answers she seeks - about her baffling abilities and her mother's past. The Dusan and the Gadi want the key. So do the Ojemba. They think Sara has it. They are willing to do anything to get it. Sara will have to do anything to stop them in this fast paced sci fi adventure from Pauline Baird Jones.

This award-winning book is also available in ebook and has just been released in audio!

  1. Congrats on the audio release Pauline!!!

How exciting to have THE KEY in audio now! It's such a great story and thanks for the fantastic prize pack you have up for grabs today!

I know you have a follow up to THE KEY coming out next year, can you tell us a little bit about that today as well?

Enjoy the party and super congrats!

  2. Hi Pauline and welcome; my congrats on the audio release- you must be very excited.

What kind of research did you do, if any, for The Key? Thanks.

  3. Hi, Robyn!
Researching science fiction is interesting. You do need to sort of have a finger on the science, while not letting it hold you back. It was interesting. LOL! But I also spend a lot of time researching military rank and slang, because I wanted my characters to sound like real Air Force pilots, etc. And I wanted to honor them and what they do.

And I wanted to have fun (and hopefully for readers to have fun, too), while reading --and not listening -- to this book. :-)

thanks for stopping by and asking a question! :-)

  4. a very appropriate prize and befitting of The Key.

What did you do to celebrate the awards The Key has received: Dream Realm Awards and a Bronze Medal? Thanks.

  5. You mean after the dance of joy? LOL! It was SUCH a thrill to have the book honored by both venues. I had so much fun writing this book.

Btw, my sister made the purse charms for me. Each is one of a kind, collector's item. she does GREAT work, IMHO. She's going to be doing some bookmarks along those lines for the release of GIRL GONE NOVA, the next book in my Garradian Universe.

She did some amazing jewelry and bookmarks for the launch of the print book, so I'm excited to see what she comes up with next. :-)

And if you are in the mood for an author going whacky, check out my "Behind the Book" interview (I interview myself about the book. **g**)

I can't even blame it on being intoxicated. I drink Diet Dr. Pepper. LOL!

  10. I will add, just as an FYI, it is very weird to hear someone read words you've only heard inside your head to this point. No one does the same emphasis that you do, so it's odd, but in a nice way. Janean Jorgensen does a lovely job of reading it. :-)

  11. Congrats on your audio release, Pauline. I just watched the trailer for The Key and it is an attention grabber.

  12. Thanks, Patsy! Mostly I was playing around with stuff. When I should have been writing, of course. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  13. do you get to pick who does the reading of your book on audio? Thanks. How nice that you are very satisfied with Janean's reading!

    ReplyDelete
  14. No, didn't have any say in it, so it was nice to be happy with it at the end. :-)

  15. I really enjoyed The Key. I bought it from Fictionwise, put on my aging Palm PDA, and read it in a short time indeed. Then, a few months later, I was stranded in a waiting room with nothing to read, so I pulled the PDA out of my purse and read The Key again. Due to the humor, I enjoyed it almost as much during that second reading.

  16. Many thanks, Pamela! So glad you enjoyed it twice!

  17. Wow Paula your doing great as an author from what I just read. That is impressive especially in all the different genres, props to you...

The Key sounds really good. I'd like to see what happens between Sara and Kieren and would also like to find out what her baffling abilities are too. A hot Alien who would have thought.

  18. Thanks, Misty! I had fun spending time with the hot alien-in my head. LOL! Luckily the hubby thought it was funny. **g**

  19. I'll add my voice to the chorus of congratulations on the audio book release. The story sounds fun--and who doesn't like the idea of spending time with a hot alien. Good luck with sales!

  20. Quite the imagination you have Pauline. I like it though for an author like yourself I believe it definitely makes you a better author.
I'd love to read the Key, I like the sounds of this science-fiction romance. I'm making sticky note to self so I can pick it up. It's just to interesting not to, I can't help myself.

  21. Many thanks, Keena! And many thanks to DeNita for "launching" me. LOL!

  22. Ooops should have said listen to the Key, I forgot it was an audiobook. That might actually make it even better actually...

  23. Odd, my husband says same thing--just before he asks strangers to make sure he gets an autopsy if he dies suddenly. LOL!

Hope you enjoy the book! It was a ride to write. It was one of those books that I needed to just have fun with. Life had been a bit grim and got better and I just went, whoohoo right into space. LOL!

Right now I'm working on a steampunk twist on my Garradian Universe (from The Key and Girl Gone Nova, which is releasing next year).

    ReplyDelete
  24. LOL! that's okay. Its a print and ebook, as well as audio book. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL

I don't think I'll have any problem enjoyibg this book. It does sound like you had some fun with it that's part of the reason I think it's going to be such a good read.
Glad I stopped here today or wouldn't have found out about this book of yours I'm so intriguied to have now...
    Good luck with Garradian Universe...

  26. thanks, Misty! glad you stopped by, too. ;-)

  27. I, too, am happy that there is humor in the book and that makes me want to read the book.

  28. I just came from reading Behind the Book; that is so cool the way you did the interview on the book. Kudos!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Many thanks, Robyn. It was fun, if a bit crazy. **g**

And it seemed a good idea to write about what prompted the book ideas before I forgot them.

  30. What fun to have a virtual launch party. I've been to a couple now, and will plan to have one when my next book comes out.

Love your cover for the new release and look forward to reading the book. Congrats, Pauline.

  31. How did you organize the different groups such as the Dusan, Gadi and Ojemba? Did you do color coding for each?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks, Maryann! This is my first cyberlaunch and its way fun. :-)

Robyn, no, I probably should have been that organized, but I commit random acts of writing. No plan at all. As I move through the books, even though its intergalactic, my focus is still on people. At least that's what I tell myself. **g**

  33. I love the bok on audio part but my question is a general one why is there no books with a hot, melt your thighs voice oh like gerald butler? lol but really I was just looking for a new book for in the car and this is perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congrats on your Cyber Launch Party and The Key going Audio. Is it your first audio adaptation?
I agree with Jennifer about Gerard Butler.

  35. I know what you mean, Jennifer. Why do companies put women on the cover of men's mags and women on OUR covers? And yes, why not a guy? The book starts out in a guy's POV. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi, Mindy!
this is actually my second audio adaptation, but Pig in a Park is, what's the term for an audio book not being available? Out of voice? LOL!

My back list is currently all out of print, but will be coming back IN print throughout 2010. Pig in a Park will be getting a small rewrite and an epilogue for its release. They are all getting new covers, so I'm pretty excited.

  37. Congratulations, Pauline!

I've only just begun looking into audio books. I think they are on the rise for the next generation of book sales due to people having lack of time to sit and read when they can listen while working out, driving, cleaning, etc...

Was it a difficult process to have your book go 'Nova' in audio? LOL

    Hugs

  38. Hi, Franny and thanks!

I retained my audio rights, so I submitted the book to Books in Motion and they accepted it very fast. It was fun, because I was expecting it to take longer. All I did was send them a copy of the book. :-)
