ANNA DOUBLES DOWN by Missy Martine

Anna can't believe how much the woman in the picture looks like her. They could be twins, except the picture was taken in 1871. Either she's a relative, or Anna had a past life in Hamilton, Nevada. Either way, the temptation to visit the old ghost town is too much. She and her friend Kat travel west.

While off exploring on her own, Anna is knocked unconscious when she falls down the steps in the saloon. She can hardly believe her eyes when she wakes.

Beau and Zeke won the Silver Rush Saloon in a poker game and have been partners and secret lovers for over ten years. They don't know what to make of the woman they found half-dressed in their cellar. She claims to know something terrible that's about to happen to their town and needs their help.

Will Anna be able to win their love and trust before it's too late?

Hi Jennifer, thanks so much. I never really pictured myself writing anything historical, but when I visited the real ghost town of Hamilton Nevada it just sort of jumped in my head and wouldn't let go :) Thanks for taking the time to stop by today.

  9. Thanks so much, Author Island. I'm very excited about this book, and so very thankful for all the wonderful reviews. This book was so much fun to write because of the research of actually going to Hamilton and taking my own pictures of the town and mill. It's so quiet and remote, and so much like what it must have been like back in 1871. Quite the experience.

Yes, there are 2 sequels planned for this book. The first one, which is Kat's story, is tentatively called "Courting Kat" -I won't give away an secrets, but readers are in for a few big surprises!

Thanks for having me here today, and for hosting this party. It's always a pleasure to hang around Author Island!

  10. This sounds like it will be a great book. What was the hardest part about writing a time travel book?

  11. I love time travel stories, especially when someone travels to the past & has to decide what to do with their knowledge of history that has suddenly become present or near future. Can't wait to read this one.

  13. Hi Sherry, the hardest part was the research I did to make sure everything sounded authentic. I had to research the clothes, food, means of cooking the food, even the slang in their language. They had different morales then and it showed in their everyday life - plus, I had to make sure the guys were thoroughly confused by any modern references Anna made. It was great fun! Thanks for taking the time to stop by today!

  16. Congratulation on the release. The book sounds sooo interesting!

What is the strangest fact that you discovered in your research for your books?

    kcnrhtx @ charter (dot) net

  17. Hi Kimberley, Strongest fact? Not sure I know how to answer that. To me, all 'facts' are equal in strength. I think the facts that fascinated me the most were first, the cooking. The iron skillets that they "seasoned" by covering in bacon grease and letting it cook into the pan - the second part of the research that stuck with me so strongly were the cemeteries. The one in Hamilton is so depressing, with so many young children's graves. There is one family plot there that has 3 children buried - none of them over the age of 9 months - born about a year apart each time. It was a strong indication of just how hard life was for women back in the old west. Thanks for taking the time to stop by today.

  18. whoops, brain fog set in not "strongest" STRANGEST fact...makes more sense doesn't it.

What is the strangest fact you uncovered in your research for your books?

  19. Hi Missy Congratulations on the book going to print. i love the cover it's gorgeous and the excerpt was wonderful. i can't wait to read the rest of the book and see what happens next.
i have read the Wolfen Heritage series and i was wondering if you are planning to write more books for this series or if it is finished?

  20. Hey Kimberly, I'm not sure anybody but me would think it was strange, but when I researched the mine I found some strange customs. Inside the shafts they would carve out little cubbyholes -like little tiny caves to the side. Supposedly it was a place to hide if there was a cave-in. To me, that's strange because it would more or less ensure that you were buried in a tiny little cave if the ceiling int he main shaft caved in. It kind of gave me the willies to think about getting inside one of those really, small enclosures. I'm not fond of mine shafts, or caves anyway and their effort at "safety" made goose bumps break out all over me.

  21. Hi Tammy Ramey, Thanks for your kind words. There is a sequel to the Wolfen Heritage Series planned for next year - A Wolfen Heritage The Next Gen - 25 Years Later. It will pick up with the children of the characters from the original series. They're still fighting a similar foe, also descendents of the original bad guys. There are 6books planned in that series. Thanks so much for stopping by today.

  25. Hi Desere, you have a really beautiful name. I get inspiration from different things, but mostly just from my overactive imagination. For Anna Doubles Down I got inspired on vacation when my husband and I took the Jeep off-road and visited the ghost town of Hamilton Nevada. The air is still, it's quiet and no signs of civilization. It was easy to imagine myself living in another time - hence, Anna's story was born. Thanks for taking the time to stop by today.

    Congrats on the print release.
I'm really looking forward to reading it.
What are you working on next?

  29. Hi Elain, I'm about to finish a book called "His First" about two men who hire a surrogate so they can have a baby. And, I'm half done with the sequel to "Anna Doubles Down" and half done with the sequel to "Catch Her When She Falls" - I like working on multiple projects at the same time. I've also got the outlines done for the first 3 books of the Wolfen Heritage The Next Gen series! Thanks for taking the time to stop in today!

  30. I love the kind of mystery a picture can pose. When you finished writing this story did you find yourself slipping into the lingo of the past?

    lenikaye@yahoo.com

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Leni, No, I can't say that I did. But it's probably because I was writing on 3 different books at the same time, one contemporary menage romance, one paranormal romance, and the time-travel - it would have been hard to pick up the lingo from any one book :) Thanks for taking the time to stop by today.

  32. Congrats on your latest release! Do you make a soundtrack for each book you write?

  33. Hi Bookwyrm369, No, but it's an intriguing idea. I do read my books out loud to myself when I'm editing. It's the only way I've been able to determine if dialog sounds natural. I catch a lot more of my own errors reading it out loud than I do reading silently to myself. I wish my books could be transferred to audio but it's not something that Siren automatically does. I've spent many a happy hour driving, listening to some of my favorite authors in the car :) Thanks for taking the time to stop by today.

  34. Well, everyone - it's late here in California so I'm going to have to say goodnight. It's been great fun, and a great honor to be here with you today. Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to stop by and leave me a comment, and a great big "thank you" to Author Island for hosting this party.

    Everyone have a great weekend!

  35. Missy, belated congrats on your print release! How exciting to have a copy to hold! Do you have a special place to keep copies of your print releases? And how fun the premise of this story is--will be looking forward to picking this one up!

  36. Hi Flchen1, Sorry I didn't get to your post last night, but I get up around 4 am so I go to bed pretty early. I have print copies of all my books in print, and they have a place of honor across the front of a shelf in my living room - right in front of all my husband's Star Trek Books! I also have each cover blown up to an 8x10 and they're framed and hanging over the desk where I work. My husband calls it my "Wall of Fame " :) Thanks for taking the time to stop by my party.

  37. LOL! I love it! I'm glad you've a special place of honor for your titles and the framed cover art is a great idea, too! The way your writing is going, you may soon need a "Room of Fame"... :)
