Celebrating A New Menage Romance From Zenobia Renquist

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog we are celebrating the release of HARLEY ON THE ROCKS, a new erotic IR menage from Zenobia Renquist (you may know her as D. Renee Bagby).

Renee is a military brat turned military wife who is currently stationed in MD with her husband and two cats.

Whether writing as D. Renee Bagby or Zenobia Renquist, she is a world-builder. She loves inventing new cultures and shaping their histories and laws because it beats researching the existing ones.

Her stories span the fantasy gamut but she dabbles in sci-fi and contemporary from time to time. While her main characters tend to be of different races, she doesn't let skin color rule or limit her stories. For her, it's all about how much she can torture her characters so they earn their happily-ever-after ending.

The rules are all new and pre-conceived notions will only slow you down, so when reading Renee's stories, she asks only one thing -- Leave Your Reality Behind.

HARLEY ON THE ROCKS by Zenobia Renquist

Harley's got the hots for her best friends -- two gorgeous hunks who're in love with one another. Helping them spice up their sex life can't be such a bad idea -- can it? Friends with benefits, nothing more.

Harley's heart has complicated the issue. She wants to be more to Koijirou and Davis than a temporary fling, but she doesn't want to ruin their friendship. If it comes down to a choice between sex and friendship, can she handle the consequences of the choice she makes?

  2. Good Morning Renee/Zenobia!!! Super congrats on the new release and WOW what a cover! That catches the eye for sure!

Tell us all about the new book and how it came to be. And what you're working on now.

Hope you're staying warm and safe this week - it's been a wild week weather wise for most of us.

Best of luck with the new book and hope it's your biggest seller yet!

  3. The weather is actually pretty nice out in MD, for once. The sun is shining bright, and that's melting some of the snow.

"Harley on the Rocks" is my nod to my hentai-watching hobby. For those who don't know hentai is Japanese animated porn. Like the main character Harley, my fav hentai genre is tentacle monsters. Huge fan of La Blue Girl and Magical Kanan.

I wanted a character with the same hobby and to show how that hobby effected her dating prospects. I'm lucky enough that my hubby shares most of interests from comics to video games to anime. I know a lot of people see something that is animated, think it's automatically for kids, and then figure the person watching it is childish. You can imagine how something like that will ruin your dates.

Making it a menage just made it more interesting.

I am currently working on another novella for Changeling Press. I started it two days ago, and I'm 7300 words in. I'd say a little over half way finished. This weekend will be a little hectic for me. I might not get much writing done, but I'm hoping to be finished in the coming week.

I'd tell you more about it, but that would ruin the surprise. :P

  4. Hi, Renee-

    Congrats on the new release.

You've got a United Nations thing going on here. Was it a conscious decision to write about a menage with three different races or something that just evolved as you wrote? Perhaps your close involvement with the military lifestyle (from watching documentaries like Carrier, it seems like there's a more even distribution of races) is an influence?

  5. Congrat Zenobia/Renee! Sounds like an awesome book. What's given you the idea for this book? Why 2 guy best friends and their girl friend? I'm just wondering what inspired you to write/go down this road.

  6. Anne - I'm a major Japan-ophile. I love Japan -- culture, people, and especially the food. Koijirou is my second Japanese character. I also love Viking-esque men. Having a menage means not having to choose which one my heroine will end up with this time. :P

Jessica - Friends with benefits that becomes much more is a tried and true plot line. Heck, even Natalie Portman is starring in a movie with the same theme. I actually wrote "Harley on the Rocks" before "Rite Men for Maya". At the time, I wanted to try writing a m/m/f menage since I'd already done an m/f/m menage with "Eris". In the future, I'm going to try f/m/f and f/f/m menages as well. Mostly it's just to see if I can do it and still have a happily ever after for all people involved.

  7. Hi, Zenobia.

Harley on the Rocks sounds great; I'm adding it to my wish list.

I also love the cover. Do you work with one particular artist?

    Thanks,

  8. Congrats on the new release. Can't wait to read it.

How did you pick their names, especially Koijirou?

  9. Congratulations on the new release. What was the hardest part of writing this book? What is your favorite genre to read and your favorite author to read?

  10. Tracey - My publisher assigns me an artist based on everyone's workload and the complexity of the cover I request. I absolutely love the cover Bryan has given me. It's getting everyone's attention. :D

Beth - I wanted a Japanese boy's name with "Koi" in it, since "koi" means love ("ai" means love too but that's a different kanji). Harley's name is a plot point, so explaining that would give away the toy surprise. And Davis... I just needed an all American sounding name.

Sherry - The hardest part of writing this book were the sex scenes. I had to resort to searching the web for threesomes so I could get position ideas. :P

My favorite genre is anything under the heading of fantasy/paranormal. I love Stephanie Burke and Bianca D'Arc. I dabble in other genres too like contemporary and Regency but that's only because I love Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick.

  11. Great cover! Have you written many menages? They are my favorite thing to read right now.

  12. Tracey - This is my third menage. The first was written under my other name -- D. Renee Bagby. I have a few others planned though I'm going back to m/f for the next few books. Less body parts to contend with. :P

  13. LOL, Renee! Congrats on this new release! This does sound like a hot one, but I imagine that tracking what/who goes where in a menage is tricky stuff!

I enjoy those friends-to-lovers stories, so I'll be interested in checking out Harley on the Rocks!

Do you write one story at a time, or do you go back and forth between multiple stories/series?

  14. flchen - I most definitely bounce back and forth between books. When I get close to the end of one book, I will focus on it completely until it is finished. Then it's back to bouncing again.
