Celebrating Samantha Sommersby's FORBIDDEN: THE TEMPTATION

Today we're celebrating the revised and expanded release of Samantha Sommersby's FORBIDDEN: THE TEMPTATION, the fourth book in her very popular Forbidden Series.

Samantha lives in San Diego with her husband and fifteen year old son. She is the author of ten novels and novellas including FORBIDDEN: THE TEMPTATION, her latest installment in the critically acclaimed Forbbiden series. In 2007, Samantha left what she used to call her "real life" day job as a pyschotherapist to pursue writing and working in the publishing industry full-time. She now happily spends her days immersed in the world of Forbidden, a world where vampires, werewolves, and demons are real, where magic is possible, and where love still conquers all.

There's a fine line between man and beast...one only the heart can cross. Let Samantha Sommersby take you there...to the world of the Forbidden. (Book 4)

A year ago, Jacob Madison got more than he bargained for during a rock-climbing trip to Yosemite. A freak accident left him badly injured, at the mercy of the elements - and the wolves who rescued him. If it hadn't been for them, he'd be dead. He'd also still be human. Now he's back, hoping to find out who he is and what he's become. Instead, he finds smart, sexy Allison Connelly.

A forensic psychologist, Allison is newly divorced and proudly standing on her own two feet...until an unexpected storm shears off the snow bank she's standing on. She plunges down an icy ravine, thinking she's heading for oblivion. Then she lands in the arms of a tall, dark Texan. Jake.

Brought together by circumstance and bound by passion, secrets from their past threaten their future before it can begin. And somewhere in the mountains lurks a rogue Were turned serial killer. Whatever the danger Jake's inner beast poses to Allison, there's only one way to protect her - unleash it. Even if it costs him her love.

Warning: This book contains raging winter storms, truly inspiring sex, a kick-butt heroine, and one very hot, dirty-talking cowboy...who's sometimes furry.

This book has been previously published and has been revised and expanded from its original release.

  1. Happy release day Sam!!! Love Jake - how could you not love a tall sexy cowboy who's sometimes furry??? ;-)

Tell us a little bit about your Forbidden Series, how many books so far and what do you have planned for the series. Also how are the books connected?

I'm off to my cyber kitchen (which I spend more time in than my real kitchen...lol) to whip up some great cyber goodies for the party! Enjoy and have fun!

Btw, thanks for the fantastic prize package - saw THE WOLFMAN and loved it, but must say, I'll take a paranormal romance (with actual sex in it) over that, but hope it makes lots of money so Hollywood will start making some of my favorite paranormals into movies!

  2. Good morning everyone. I'm going to be popping in and out today celebrating the release of Forbidden: The Temptation. A bit about the series...

Each book features a different hero/heroine pairing and is told from the perspective of the male protagonist in first person point of view. This gives the reader an up-close and very personal experience of the hero. From the first book you’re immersed in the supernatural world of the Forbidden.

WARNING: This book contains one bad-ass demon, spectacular shagging, a feisty American heroine, and one very hot, very British, knife-wielding shrink.

In Book 1, The Sacrifice, psychiatrist Wesley Atherton realizes there’s a fine line between madness and mysticism. When he’s pitted in a battle against the Grim Reaper and Kate, the woman he loves, is threatened, Wes will do anything, make any sacrifice, to save her. The reader, along with the hero/heroine, discover this hidden, paranormal culture and a group of characters that will appear in subsequent installments.

WARNING: This book contains one fabulously feisty redheaded heroine, one hunky holy-man-turned-rebel vampire, a group of corrupt religious zealots, women in chains and plenty of scorching hot sex.

Book 2, The Ascension, takes place five years later and introduces us to vampire Byron Renfield. Byron’s struggle is almost the polar opposite of Wesley’s. As one of the most elite and powerful vampires, he’s lived a life very separate from humans. He finds himself enticed to give up his way of life, his entire belief system, when he falls in love with and impulsively claims Violet, a human. The union between Byron and Violet sets off a chain of events, triggering a revolution that will change the world.

WARNING: This book contains spectacular magical ass-kickings, copious amounts of blistering sex, one super-sexy, gun-toting heroine, and a very delicious, very powerful sorcerer…who sometimes sports fangs.

Book 3, The Revolution, is set twenty-five years after The Ascension and features Dell Renfield, the son of Byron and Violet. Dell is not only a vampire, he’s a master mage and a member of the Preternatural Special Forces (the PSF), a group of supernaturals who work for the government. In The Revolution Dell is sent on a secret mission with an irresistible human partner, Alexandria (Alex) Sanchez. There are glimpses of characters from prior novels and some new ones are introduced. We get to see what Byron has been able to accomplish in terms of his goal to mainstream the monsters into society and we see Dell’s struggle to balance supporting his father’s vision, living his own dream, and fulfilling his greater destiny.

How does The Temptation continue it?

There's a scene in The Revolution where you're introduced to a hunky werewolf from Texas named Jake. As soon as I wrote the scene I knew that he needed his own book. The Temptation occurs just a matter of months after The Revolution. Dell Renfield makes an appearance and there are references to Byron and Wesley. The universe broadens and we discover that a very powerful and reliable seer believes Jake has an important role to play in something that’s to come. More immediately, Jake has to save college professor Allison Connelly when she falls into an icy ravine AND protect his pack from a maniacal rogue Were turned serial killer.

  3. It says that Forbidden:The Temptation is a revised release. Does that mean that more chapters were added to it?

  4. This version is about 40% longer than the original. Samhain had me increase it from novella to novel size. I had so much fun going back and expanding on this story. I especially enjoyed writing the extra scenes with the villain. Roane Devlin is deeply disturbed.

  5. Oh this sounds good. And I love how you tied it in with the new movie. Which brings me to ask, if your book was ever made into a movie, who do you see playing the part of Jake? and how about Allison?

It's always fun to find out how the author pictures their characters and how it can be so different from the reader.

Good luck with your new book and with the series, I'm putting it on my WANT list, for sure!

  6. The new book sounds great! I love the tat on the cover model and that is one sexy hero. I'm a big fan of series books since I like seeing characters evolve through a number of books. So it's great to know there's more to this world you created.

  7. I have the first one in the series, so this one is definitely going on the TBB list. Would love to win this newest one, but not interested in the movie.
    Congrats on this newest release.

  8. Actors to play Jake and Allison in a movie version? Oh, I'm terrible at this. Help! Is there a young Matthew McConaughey out there? Jakes in his early twenties, but a Texan through and through. Very athletic. Old world charm, but boy can he be crass at times. Allison is in her early-mid thirties. Very sophisticated. Well educated. Sultry. Catherine Zeta-Jones perhaps?

    Sam

An Excerpt - I love this scene between the two of them:

The cabin was toasty warm and I was sated in more ways than one. I’d feasted on the cornbread and chicken stew before turning my attention back to Allison. We’d spent the last few hours exploring one another’s bodies and indulging in hot, sweaty sex. The kind I’d always dreamed of having. It was raw and uncomplicated. And I wanted more of it.
I rolled onto my side and studied Allison’s back, resisting the urge to touch her. I listened intently to her breathing, trying to determine if she’d drifted off.

“What?” She’d been on the edge of sleep. Her voice sounded far away.

    “You’re amazing.”

“I bet you say that to all the girls you save.”

    “Only the ones who swallow.”

She pushed back against me. It was probably meant as a sign of reproach but my dick thought it encouraging. It was semi-hard and slipped right between the cleft of her ass.

“I should let you sleep,” I murmured, gently kissing her shoulder.

    “You should sleep too.”

“Can’t. Too many thoughts going through my head.”

She rolled over, more awake now.

“What are you thinking about?” She ran the tips of her fingers across my forehead as if she were trying to smooth out the rough spots in my psyche. If that were her goal, she was going to need a hammer and a chisel.

    “Doesn’t matter, go to sleep.”

    She frowned.

“It’s none of my business,” I added.

“It’s keeping you awake.” She kissed me, softly on the mouth. “Ask.”

“Tell me about your marriage, about your divorce. You said you had baggage. I want to understand.”

    “Why?”

“Because I like you. I want to see more of you.”

She smiled. “I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen all there is of me, Dallas.”

I threaded my fingers through her hair at the base of her skull and looked her in the eye, my gaze steady and unwavering. “I want to see you,” I repeated.

She nodded and licked her lips. “You might not like everything you see.”

    “You haven’t disappointed me yet.”

She rolled over, gazed up at the ceiling, and sighed. “Suddenly I feel like I could use a drink.”

    “Water?”

“I was thinking more along the lines of scotch.”

Every minute I was with this woman, I liked her more and more.

I climbed out of bed, walked over to the kitchen area, pulled a bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label out of one of the cupboards, and grabbed two glasses.

Allison sat up in bed. “You had scotch and you didn’t use it to try to get me drunk and in the sack earlier?”

I made my way back over to her. “That wouldn’t have been very honorable.” After pouring each of us a generous glass, I set the bottle down on the floor.

“Do men still think of things like honor?”

I handed Allison her scotch, then crawled back into bed with the other.

    “Some do.”

“Have you ever been in love, Dallas?”

    “Can’t say I have.”

“You’ve never had your heart broken?”

“Superbowl forty-two When Eli Manning threw that thirteen-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress with thirty-five seconds to go in the fourth quarter. I cried.”

She frowned. Apparently she wasn’t a football fan. Guess it’s true, nobody’s perfect.

“No.” I continued, hoping I could make the frown disappear by giving her a real answer. “Not the way you mean. My mother died a couple years ago. That was hard. We were close. I miss her…still.”

“I’m sorry.” She reached for my hand and held it.

I shrugged. There wasn’t really any more to say. I’d opened up and shared. Now there was nothing to do but bask in the small victory.

  9. This sounds like a wonderful book I love anything with werewolves in it. They are my favorite of all kinds of paranormal books that you can do.

  11. Forbidden: The Temptation sounds like a fabulous read! I love books with paranormals in them especially werewolves and vampires. :)

Do you plan on revising or expanding any of your other books?

  12. Loved the excerpt! Do you always write in the male's point of view? I find that so interesting that this series is in the male point of view. Do you find it difficult to keep in that character? What made you decide to write that way and do you find you have more male readers because of it?

  13. TOPSAIL246@aol.com - You're the winner! Contact me with your preferred file format for the download and I'll get that and the gift certificate off to you.

The other books in the series have all been expanded from the original version. They've all essentially gone from novella to novel length.

CJ - All of the books in this series are from the male POV, but that's not exclusively how I write. I have a more traditional 3rd person POV Contemporary coming out in May with Samhain called Shelter From the Storm (http://samhainpublishing.com/coming/shelter-from-the-storm).

I do enjoy writing in 1st person POV the most. I love the immediacy and intensity of it. I do have a growing male readership, but most of my readers (based on mail) are women. Many of them tell me they enjoy being inside the head of the hero. Urban Fantasy is often written in 1st person POV from the perspective of the female protagonist and a read a lot of it. Curiosity drove me to the decision to write the story from the male POV. After doing the first one that way, I was completely hooked.
