A New Release In Mark Jackman's The Sid Tillsley Chronicles

Today we're celebrating the LL Publications release of A FISTFULL OF RUBBERS, book two in Mark Jackman's trilogy, The Sid Tillsley Chronicles.

MARK JACKMAN is one of the most talented, exciting, and hilarious writers to explode onto the fiction scene in the 21st century,” was what Mark Jackman hoped to read in the papers last year. He also hoped to punch a shark and own a Ford 2.8i Capri. He hoped that with the release of The Great Right Hope his newly-found celebrity status would bring him fast women, hard drugs and liquor, and then slower, more understanding women. Instead he has had to be satisfied with The Great Right Hope making regular appearances on various lists with various rankings on the Amazon.co.uk Bestseller List, such as in the Top 100 in the categories of Horror (Kindle), Parodies & Satire Horror, Humour (Kindle and Print). A Fistful of Rubbers is the second installment in the trilogy known as The Sid Tillsley Chronicles.

HE has successfully installed a decking area into his garden.

A FISTFUL OF RUBBERS: Book Two of The Sid Tillsley Chronicles
By Mark Jackman

Middlesbrough’s favourite son Sid Tillsley is now a vampire-hunter, but even the coolest, most dangerous job in the world can’t get him a shag, forcing him into the more hazardous world of Internet dating. To make matters worse, the Human-Vampire Coalition has shut the local boozer forcing Sid and his friends to drink sub-standard ale!

But Sid has a fight coming. Something lurks in the shadows, or rather, the closet. A Northerner will punch anything in the face, but one thing he fears is a direct attack on his sexuality…and the Campire draws near.

Meanwhile, the psychotic vampire Gunnar Ivansey wants revenge. Sid hit Gunnar so hard in the nuts he’s never forgiven him. And with the death of vampire warlord Michael Vitrago, the floodgates are open for any vampire to enter Britain, the heart of the vampire nation, and wage war against humanity.

Can the Coalition prevent the vampire world from destroying mankind? Can Sid get lucky on the Internet? Can the Coalition use Sid to hunt Gunnar Ivansey? Can Sid find a decent pint? Does humanity have a chance if its only hope is Sid’s great right hook…and a fistful of rubbers?

Readers who haven’t read THE GREAT RIGHT HOPE (yet) won’t be left wondering or confused as Mark Jackman makes a seamless transition into this second instalment of the hilarious Sid Tillsley Chronicles. Amy J. Ramsey of Ramsey’s Book Reviews says, “A FISTFUL OF RUBBERS is a cleverly crafted sequel to Jackman’s THE GREAT RIGHT HOPE. It contains everything a
vampire reader wants: action, adventure, humor, and most importantly, SHAGGING…(erm) slaying of all sorts. The ultimate vampire series. Howay the lads! A definite must read!”

Mark Jackman proudly presents The Sid Tillsley Chronicles as “the anti-Twilight” in response to what he sees as a downward spiral of the vampire genre. He explains that “Creatures of the night have slowly revolved through the years to creatures of the…posters of teenage girls. I don’t like that.”

A FISTFUL OF RUBBERS is available in print and several ebook formats and can found at www.amazon.com, www.amazon.co.uk, www.omnilit.com as well as many other print and ebook retailers.

  2. Thanks for having me!

First there’s me... Quick facts: I’m English, 30, sound a bit like a farmer, refuse to pay the extortionate price for sweets in the cinema, and I hate badminton.

I thought I’d give writing ago back when I was 25 as I was playing too much Playstation. The Great Right Hope was my first piece of fiction. I’ve written all three parts to the trilogy including the last instalment, Acracknophobia. I’ve moved on to some dark, superhero stuff, and have some other comedies lined up.

I’m a scientist (analytical chemistry), working for a Pharma company, and I’m hopefully going back to university next year to start a PhD in solar power tech (application went in today). I’m getting into science writing and blog for the Royal Society of Chemistry. I had my first piece published in their magazine, Chemistry World, in September. I’m looking to expand my science writing in the coming year.

As for the Sid Tillsley Chronicles, a lot of people have described them as “Anti-Twilight,” but, being honest, this was never my intention. I started writing the series in 2005 and I hadn’t even heard of glittery-gold vampires. If I had, I would have given the vampires a much harder time. Vampires are creatures of the night. If they hang around in a teenage girl’s bedroom, watching her sleep, then they’re up to mischief and need a good smack. Little bit weird, if you ask me....

The Chronicles aren’t just about vampires. There’s a North/South divide in England which causes much...discussion... The stereotypes are that the South is affluent, posh, aloof, and that the North is poor, down-to-earth and old fashioned. The story is an OTT look at Northern life, life in the pub.

  3. Are there any strong female characters in your trilogy? Not saying there SHOULD be, but are there?

  4. Hi Mark,

Enjoyed reading your blog and comments today. Your book sounds like great fun and something I would enjoy reading. I'm going to check it out a bit closer!

  5. Hey Marian, Good question. There is a lot of testosterone buzzing around this book. The sort of pubs the lads drink in aren't the type that attract the fairer sex. The book takes a dig at sexism, and every other type of 'ism' you can think of...unless you think of one i haven't thought of...anyway, there is extreme strength in a couple of female characters, who drive the story, but this only becomes apparent later in the series.

Karen, glad you've ejoyed the blog!

  7. Hi,

I'm a Brit too, who lives in Germany. I married one, so ended up here after travelling a lot of the world first.

Anyways, I really enjoyed your post and the book looks really good too!!

So, how much time do you carve out for writing and how long does it take you to get the first draft done?

  8. Camia, thanks so much. Really appreciate your kind words.

Hi Valerie, I write best when in a routine. It takes me a while to start things, but once I do I'm pretty consistent. During a good working week, I'll write 500 words at lunch, then after work a 1000 pre and post gym workout. If I do this four times a week I get 10K done, plus if I have weekends free I can write another 10K. Helps to wrap up a first draft quickly, but my first drafts have always been ...well, pretty disgusting, so editing is what takes the time for me. Where abouts in the UK are you from?

  9. I love british humor and I enjoy the vampire genre as well.

I've not heard of this series before and am sure I'll be checking it out more.

Good luck with the books and wish you great success.

I started off employing Ruth Yaron's "Super http://www.vbboots.co.uk/ugg-boots-classic-tall-c-40.html

There are some factors about this book that I love, particularly the index of various fruits and veggies that explains when to introduce, how to select, and provides several ideas for preparing. What I do not like is the emphasis on feeding my child a "super porridge" that includes all sorts of stuff that I do not usually eat, like kelp, desiccated liver, and brewers yeast.
