Today we're celebrating Teirney Medeiro's debut novel IVORY'S ADDICTION. And because she's a new author, here's a chance to get to know her!
Let's meet Teirney Medeiros:
I'm not much of an exciting person... I'm quiet, shy and usually socially backward. I'd rather read than talk on the phone, and write than watch television. I'd rather make a difference in one person's life than the world.
My heart belongs to my husband, family, friends, children and my stories, everything I am goes into my writing. I hate activity, I'd rather sit beneath the sunshine and listen to my own random thoughts than attend a college party. I'm flakey at times, and I make no promise to understand what you're saying half the time. I'm usually not listening because I've got to deal with the voices in my own head first. My husband thinks I'm smart as a whip and dumb as a doornail at the same time because I have hope someday mankind will wake up and see what they're doing to each other.I don't pretend to be sweet, innocent or kind. Sometimes I just am. I'm not always humble, and I'm not always proud.
Honestly, I'm just a person grateful for life. I love to watch the world going on around me. I think I'd rather observe than talk. If I never spoke again, it's okay, I'm a better listener anyway. I'm a living contradiction, and I love it that way.

IVORY'S ADDICTION by Teirney Medeiros
Social worker Ivory Black has seen the effects of addiction too many times to count. The latest: A baby girl whose mother died in an overdose. What would have been an easy case turns into a fight for her heart when bad-boy Jax Morgan enters the picture.
As the only living relative, Jax is by law, the child's assumed guardian. As Ivory struggles to open Jax's cold heart to the child, and keep her own protected from him at the same time, Jax is dealing with severe PTSD. Addiction is never pretty, but Ivory can't stop wanting Jax.

Good morning Teirney and congrats on the publication of your first novel!!! It's a huge accomplishment and you have a lot to be proud of!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the excerpt and your publishers gave you a fantastic cover!
Tell us a bit about the book and what you're currently working on.
Congratulations on the release of your first novel! The story sounds very interesting and the cover is intriguing. Loved the excerpt. I'm curious as to whether you write full time or have a day job and write part time.

Thanks for having me! I am very excited about this book. The cover artist did a wonderful job :) Ivory's Addiction is a love story between a battle hardened soldier, Jax Morgan who has lost hope, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and the ability to feel empathy for anyone. Until he meets Ivory Black, a social worker who barges into his life when a baby girl is placed in her care. Jax is the biological uncle to the child but it will take Ivory's strength and tenacity to convince him he's a man who can love and care for this child. And in the meantime, falls for him herself.
ReplyDeleteCurrently, I just contracted the second book, Axel's Obsession, with Amira Press and I will begin work on the third installment shortly.
Hi, Maria! To answer your question, no I don't work but I am not able to write full-time either. My husband is deployed to Iraq and I have a 7 mo old son whose developed an interest in getting into whatever he can get his hands on! :) Right now I am only able to write after the little guy goes to sleep, and more often than not, I'm tired too! So, I'm hoping that once my DH comes home, I'll have more time to write.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your debut novel. Sounds like a great read. Edgy, but hot. What is your writing background? Did you just decide to sit down one day and write a novel, or have you written before? I'm always curious as to how authors get their start.
ReplyDeleteHi, Cara
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by. My writing background...hmmm. Well, I always wrote. And it was always romance. I took a creative writing class in HS and realized it was what I wanted to do, but took a round-a-bout way of getting there. I joined the Army at 19, became a print journalist, and when my time in was up, had nothing to do. So while my husband attended EOD school, I decided to give it a real go. Ivory's Addiction was the fruit of that. Once it was contracted, I realized that I could do it again. So, I've been working at it ever since. I just love telling stories :)

Congrats on your debut release, Teirney. Do you have a release date for "Axel's Obsession"?

Jean, thanks for stopping by and I am glad the excerpt piqued your interest! I think it's one of the best scenes in the book. And Jane, I don't have the release date yet. I literally just sent the contract back on Sunday, so I'm still waiting for news on everything, including the release date, but I'll be posting that information as I get it on my facebook page and website.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your book it sounds very good. What made you write about addiction and PTSD?
ReplyDeletesstrode@scrtc.com
Thanks, Sherry. I'm not sure...addiction seemed the natural course for the story. As for PTSD, that's a tough question. There were alot of reasons I thought PTSD made the perfect internal conflict for Jax. Alot of soldiers struggle with it these days. For my hero, Jax, having a weakness is a bane on his existance, but it's not until he meets Ivory that he realizes how dangerous it is. Ivory is a very strong female character, and she needed a worthy opponet. And in a way, the story helped me better understand it :)
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your debut book. It must be quite exciting. You mentioned in your above introduction that reading is one of your hobbies - do you read mostly in the romance genre or are you a fan of other genres, as well? From other blogs I've read, I find that most authors enjoy many different types of genres. Whereas, as a reader, I pretty much stick to romance books.
Thanks, Jennifer (jend451 at gmail.com)
Hi, Jennifer...I read everything. I love to read romance of course, but what I read in romance I can't write. So, for example, I wouldn't even know where to begin with a paranormal romance but I love reading them. However, I also like to read true crime, suspense and horror. This might sound strange, but I have a few text books I like to read as well. But for the most part, as long as it's in english and it's a story, I'll read it. The most reading I get to do these days though is the daily news :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your book release! It sounds like a very interesting read.
ReplyDeleteHow much research did you have to do about addiction and PTSD?
Thanks, Estella, I honestly didn't have to do much. The addiction in question for Ivory's Addiction is the inability to forget, or get over, someone she knows is bad for her (or so she thinks) and the PTSD part, I was already familiar with from personal experiences within the Army. I really only researched what medicines were used to treat it and the therapy involved. The story itself isn't so much about the PTSD or even addiction itself...it's about two people who, once they meet, know thats it, they found their soulmate and both willing to do whatever it takes to find happiness.
ReplyDeleteTeirney, Sounds like a great book! I think you're writing from a unique percpective in that you were military yourself as well as married to military. Since I'm prior military myself and currently work at an Army hospital, it's a pet peeve to read a book and the author gets terms ect wrong. I know it isn't intentional but it pulls me out of the story.
ReplyDeleteDid you pattern any of your characters after people you know?
Michelle Smith
Booknook1966@yahoo.com
Hi, Michelle and thank you for stopping by! I get a little annoyed with mis-use of terms etc myself, but mostly with movies :) All the characters have some trait that someone in my life might have to a degree, but only one character is modeled after anyone, actually, two people I knew. Nana, Ivory's grandmother, is a blending of my two grandmothers. One was a devout mennonite and the other was kicked outta the church! So, Nana has a few qualities from both. I really, really enjoyed writing her scenes because I could make her as wise or outrageous as I wanted to and it still fit her character.
ReplyDeleteCongrats girl! I'm so excited to see you out and promoting! :-) I wish you continued success too! :-)
ReplyDeleteHuge congrats on your debut--what a thrill! May it be the first of many ;)

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the debut novel Teirney and on contracting the second!!! Ivory's Addiction has a great cover on it:) I'm an observer rather than talker myself too. I could literally sit there in the middle of the mall and just watch people and wonder about their lives. I'm also addicted to shopping so I couldn't do that all day, lol!
