Celebrating A New Paranormal Anthology Featuring A Story By Erin McCarthy

Today we are celebrating the release of THE BEAST WITHIN, a multi-author anthology featuring brand new stories from Erin McCarthy, Bianca D'Arc and Jennifer Lyon!

NYTimes bestselling author Erin McCarthy sold her first book to Kensington Brava through author Lori Foster's website contest in 2002, much to her continued amazement. Thirty-something books later, Erin is entertaining both Brava and Berkley readers with her sassy, sexy tales of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her Las Vegas Vampires series debuted in August 2006, with HIGH STAKES hitting #1 on the B&N trade romance list. Erin also writes dark paranormal in her Seven Deadly Sins series and paranormal young adult novels under the name Erin Lynn.

THE BEAST WITHIN - Meet three men without boundaries, hell-bent on satisfying their deepest desires - and those of the women who drive them wild...

The Howling by Erin McCarthy
When Liv Lugaru's boyfriend Sebastian disappears, she finds comfort in his brother's arms. But Sebastian is much closer than Liv realizes...and he'll stop at nothing to protect her from the feral danger that comes alive only when she sleeps...

Smoke On The Water by Bianca D'Arc
In the misty fog of a lakefront village, zombies are roaming wild - and zombie hunter John Petit must stop the carnage. John is also fighting a different kind of battle: a forbidden passion for his new partner, Donna. With her help, killing zombies is a walk in the park, but keeping his desire in check is making him sweat...

Redeeming The Wizard by Jennifer Lyon
Gage Remington was once a powerful wizard; now he's a recluse who keeps the world at bay. But when Mira Tate arrives at Gage's door, she stirs in him an attraction he can't deny. Soon, Gage will risk everything to keep Mira close - even the secret that may be his ruin...

  11. I have been looking forward to this release. YAY it is here. Congratulations.

  12. Thanks, everyone!! I'm excited to be in an anthology with two fabulous authors like Bianca and Jennifer. :)

As for how anthologies come together... sometimes the publisher creates the concept and picks authors. Sometimes an author is given a generic concept like "paranormal" and has freedome to do whatever, sometimes authors work together to create a concept. In this case, the choice of what kind of paranormal story was ours.

My story is unrelated to any other books of mine... this is actually my first werewolf! Hope you all enjoy it. :) Oh, and I did do a lot of werewolf research, but given the story is only 100 pages, I'm not sure how much of that wound up in the final product. Mostly just the moon and the primal drive of the male werewolf... the sexy stuff! lol.

  13. Thanks for the welcome and the kind words. Like Erin, I'm really excited to be included in such a great anthology!

To answer some of your questions - my story is set in middle Tennessee. Luckily, I didn't have to do too much research on the area, since I've traveled there in recent years.

This story is related to my current series of zombie stories. The romance is hot. The villains are gross. ;-) Scary too, of course, though I wouldn't really call it "horror".

In this particular case, my editor was the one who wanted a zombie story. She had read some of my other paranormal work (I write several series for Samhain Publishing) and wanted a series of zombie tales. That eventually evovled into my debut Brava novel, ONCE BITTEN, TWICE DEAD, which came out in March, and two others that will be out soon. (A DARKER SHADE OF DEAD in November and DEAD ALERT in 2011.)

The heroes in these books are all Special Ops warriors and the heroines are special in their own way. Donna, the heroine in my story in THE BEAST WITHIN, is a newly graduated chemical engineer. Because I started my own working career as a biochemist, it wasn't too hard for me to write her. ;-)

Well, I've rambled a bit. Thanks for indulging me. If there are any other questions, just holler! :) And thanks for featuring the book and all the kind words.

Come over to The D'Arc Side...

  14. Congrats on the book realease. I love anthologies. And can't wait to read this sounds so good.

  15. Hi everyone! I think I'm the last one to arrive for the party :-) But I can thrilled to be in the anthology with Erin and Bianca!

Generally, the publisher does pick the author and the overall concept for the anthology. In my case, I haven't written about wizards yet, so I thought that would be fun. Then I got mean: I made him powerful ONCE but now he must hide his fried powers from the entire town.
Then I pair him up with a magic-blind woman who is so desperate to find her grandmother, she blackmails the wizard.

Of course their is instant chemistry between them, but they have to overcome secrets and old beliefs to have any chance at love.

I do a fair amount of research. For instance, the magical properties of gemstones. I'd say I probably end up using about a quarter of the research I do.

Writing this novella was a fun break from my ongoing series about witches and witch hunters fighting a dark and deadly curse. BLOOD MAGIC and SOUL MAGIC came out last year, and two more books in the series, NIGHT MAGIC AND SINFUL MAGIC are coming out in April and June of next year from Ballantine.

Hope you all find some magic in books!

  16. Congrats on the release!

Erin - I love my shifters. I hope this won't be your only werewolf. I read the excerpt on your website. Sounds intriguing.

Bianca - I went to your site as well. I'm sure you do have your own personal angel to guide you in other ways now. Lab geek, martial arts, and writer? I guess one way to do your research is by experience!

Jennifer - What A cute puppy! I bought Blood Magic and Soul Magic. Now I need to get on the stick and read them! The series does sound great.

  17. I've been wanting this book since the first time I saw it because it has some of my favorite authors in it. All of the stories sound great.
