Bestselling, award-winning author Heidi Betts began her love affair with the romance genre in junior high school, where she used to sneak romance novels into study hall when she should have been doing her homework. It didn't take long to decide she wanted to write a few romances of her own, so she set out to do just that.
Her first book was released by Dorchester Publishing in 2000, with five more to follow. From there, Heidi moved into the contemporary arena by writing numerous category titles for Silhouette Desire, and recently she signed with St. Martin's Press to begin writing funny, sexy single titles.
With each new book, Heidi asks herself how she can bring to life endearing heroes and heroines whom readers will believe are meant for each other. And with each new novel to hit the stands, readers and reviewers alike declare she knows how to create a story that sizzles, charms, and delights from the first page to the last. Her first title for Silhouette Desire landed at #1 on the Waldenbooks/Borders Series Romance Bestseller List, where her books have continued to make an appearance ever since.
Heidi loves to read, write, watch movies (and just a little too much television), and surround herself with furry, four-legged friends in her home in the beautiful hills of Central Pennsylvania.

This wasn't the type of Christmas present he'd been expecting. Trevor Jarrod - a daddy? Yet the enticing woman seated in his office claimed the Aspen businessman was the father of her baby nephew. Quick as he could say paternity test, Trevor discovered she was telling the truth. But just what did this revelation mean? The confirmed bachelor knew nothing about being a parent. And Haylie Smith wasn't about to hand off the precious infant to a complete stranger.
If Trevor really wanted to claim his unexpected heir, he had an important choice - head to court...or head to the altar!

Hi Heidi! Congrats on the new release ;)
ReplyDeleteSo my question for you is this....out of all the books you've written, what one is your favorite?
miztik_rose@yahoo.com
Good morning, everyone! Thank you so much for having me back at Author Island!
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled to be able to share my new release with you. INHERITING HIS SECRET CHRISTMAS BABY is my first new Silhouette Desire in a while, the final installment of a very fun 6-book continuity series, *&* a book I just loved...what's not to be happy about?
AI~ Thank you so much! XMAS BABY does indeed wrap up "Dynasties: The Jarrods." My story is about Trevor Jarrod, the youngest son & a playboy to boot. But when Haylie Smith shows up in his office with a bouncing baby boy she insists is his son, he has to put his carefree attitude aside & focus on fatherhood.
ReplyDeleteI also wrap up a few storylines from previous books in the series & show a couple of HEAs for the other characters.
My plans for Xmas...well, since I've got a book due right after the holidays, I will mostly be writing. Already did some baking & shopping & wrapping, & got my gifts & cards out earlier than I usually manage (yay, me!), but other than that it will probably be just a quiet holiday of typing away & watching Elf 16 or 70xs. *g*
@Regina~ Thanks!
ReplyDelete@Linda~ Thank you! Yes, I'll be writing category for a while yet. After XMAS BABY, I'll have another Desire out in June 2011 (Her Little Secret, His Hidden Heir :-)), & at least one more after that that I haven't written yet. :-/
@Mary~ Thank you, too! Boy, that's a tough question. I'm not sure I can even answer it. I've loved all of my characters because they're each special & unique in their own way. Plus, my faves tend to be whichever ones I'm writing about at the moment...or the ones I'll be writing about in the next book, because I get excited about starting a new project.
But I really did love Trevor & Haylie from this book. They were right up my alley, as was the secret baby storyline. :-D
So happy for you on your new release! I checked the dungeon and here before Careerbuilder. [I'm bad I know.]
ReplyDeleteMy question is this: Do you enjoy writing the Vamps more than when you did the Chicks with Sticks trilogy?
Bonus question: Is my theory that Harlequin has a lotto ball machine and that's how the titles get generated even remotely close to reality of how titles get chosen?
Congrats Heidi on the release of "Inheriting His Secret Christmas Baby"!!!!

ReplyDeleteWanted to show some love and help you celebrate the release of Inheriting His Secret Christmas Baby. Looking forward to reading this story.

@Diana~ You are bad...but these places are way more fun than work-related sites. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOn the Vamps vs. Chicks question, I honestly feel about the same about them because they're not all that different. The vamp books have a touch of paranormal to them, sure, but are still basically sexy, funny contemps. In fact, I jokingly call them "Chicks with Fangs" because they're so similar in tone. :-D
On Harlequin titles... LOL It sometimes seems that way, huh? But really, there are title meetings that take place & certain words they try to use for the most impact. Then it's a matter of making sure titles don't sound too similar with other releases that month or even too repetitive with past titles. I've been annoyed a time or two when they've changed one of my titles, but then do end up loving the new ones, so it's a win-win situation. :-)
@Sandy~ Thank you!
ReplyDelete@Crystal~ Thanks! I love the cover, too...it's my first with a baby on it, as well as just a hero & baby. :-)
@Cheralyn~ Thank you! A favorite character from this story, or from all of my books?
In this story--I don't think I could pick! Really loved all of them. Baby Bradley was lots of fun to writer about, but Trevor was sexy (think Matthew McConaughey ;-)) & Haylie was strong & independent, but very protective of her baby nephew.
From all my books...nope, don't think I could pick then, either. I really love them all. Hate them sometimes, if they won't fall in line while I'm writing LOL but usually come around to loving them again by the end.
@Leni~ I appreciate you popping in to share a bit of your day with me--thank you! I hope you enjoy XMAS BABY!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the release of your new book INHERITING HIS SECRET CHRISTMAS BABY.

Hi Heidi,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new release. I love your category romances. Which one of your covers is your favorite?

Congrats on the new release!
ReplyDeleteHeidi!!!! Congrats on your latest! Was The Jarrods a series that you wrote all yourself, or was it a multi-author one? Which do you prefer doing?

Chicks with Fangs...love it!
ReplyDeleteTitle meetings. Interesting.
@Nas~ Thanks so much! It's always so hard to find a fun excerpt that doesn't give too much away or run on forever. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe this FB page link will work: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fans-of-Heidi-Betts/51222784628#!/pages/Fans-of-Heidi-Betts/51222784628?v=wall
@Jane~ Thank you, Jane! I certgaily love writing them!
ReplyDeleteI've been really lucky when it comes to covers, so it's hard to pick only one fave. I really liked the one for SEVEN-YEAR SEDUCTION...& MR. AND MISTRESS...& I like this one for XMAS BABY because it's my first guy/baby cover. :-)
@Minna~ Thanks!
ReplyDelete@Fedora~ The Jarrods is a multi-author series; I only wrote the last book. And I enjoy both, actually. The only perk to writing all the books myself is that I can make notes & keep track of the details better (altho I don't always do it perfectly LOL). When it's multiple authors writing connected books, it's hard to keep everything straight, & even tho we keep in touch, I sometimes don't know I need certain info from them till it's too late. :-/ But we all do our best & I think the stories still come out fabu. :-D
@Estella~ I'm pretty much a bona fide cat lady. I love all animals, but cats are the ones that seem to gravitate to me.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have too many fave authors to count, but some names that come immediately to mind (in no particular order *g*) are Lori Foster, Susan Andersen, Jessica Andersen, Delores Fossen, Lisa Kleypas... So many good books & authors out there!
This sounds like a really good book!

I love Christmas stories. There is something heart warming & reassuring about them no matter the genre.

Congrats on the new release! I like Christmas stories! Any other special occasions books in the works?
ReplyDeletechey127 at hotmail dot com
Congrats on your new release! It looks like it's going to be a great Christmas read.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any fun traditions for celebrating the winter holidays?
freodwyn @ gmail . com
Thanks, @Virginia!
ReplyDelete@Marybelle~ Me, too! I've done three of my own now, & I love to read Christmas stories all through Dec. It helps to put me in the holiday spirit, I think.
@Chey~ Other than THE BITE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, my holiday vampires that came out last month, I can't think of any other special occasions I'll be writing about in the near future. May have to try to work another Xmas story under my belt, tho--they're a blast!
@Sara~ Thanks! I'm a little lazy when it comes to celebrating holidays, but I always try to do some baking, I *have* to hang my favorite stockings, & I always make sure there's lots of fun holiday stuff going on at my blog. That's probably where I celebrate the holiday most, believe it or not. LOL
congrats and kudos to you on the release.
ReplyDeletewriting is find over the holidays if you have to but take some time to do other things like you planned.
yourstrulee(at)sasktel(dot)net
I am leary of reading harlequin because the stories seem so simular. Like a lot of thier stories I have seen lately have a suprise baby in them. Did you write the story first, or did they suggest the general idea? I mean, do a lot of stories suddenly pop up with a simular gen theme at the same time, does this just happen? (not even saying yours is, I have just noticed that this does happen at times) What do you think? sudden trends or do the publishers push them?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new release! And the Launch Party! Yours DOES sound like fun and I can't wait to read it!
vickykerr[at]sbcglobal.net
That totally makes sense, Heidi! And I'm sure it's fun both ways--either controlling all the details yourself, or having the fun of working with others to create a little "universe" to write in :) Thanks!
ReplyDelete@Robyn~ Thanks, Robin. Unfortunately, I'm on deadline right now with a book due right after the holidays, so there won't be a lot of down time for me. That's okay--I can always take a little time off after the book is turned in. :-)
ReplyDelete@Vicky~ Please don't be leery of category romance...they really can be wonderful little stories. (Even Nora Roberts & Linda Howard started out in category, y'know. ;-))
ReplyDeleteTitle-wise, yes, I admit a lot of the same themes pop up & some of them can be rather corny. But the fact is, certain words & themes really sell in category romance, so Harlequin puts them on the books as often as possible. I'd suggest you don't even pay attention to them, if they turn you off...instead, read the back cover blurbs instead & go for storyline, or read by author. (Might I suggest you start with me? *g*) Because they really can be great, very streamlined stories.
@Fedora~ Being involved in a multi-author series can be especially fun if you get characters & a storyline you really love...which, with XMAS BABY, I definitely did. :-D
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new book. Handsome man, baby and holiday spirit makes such a great book and I also must add the lovely cover is the topping on it all. susan Leech garysue@dejazzd.com
