Celebrating Something Different From LaVerne Thompson

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog we're celebrating a new adult graphic novel by LaVerne Thompson and Red Rose Publishing.

JOURNEY OF THE PRINCESS OF ICE by LaVerne Thompson

What happens when fire meets ice?

Ice had traveled the realms for centuries searching for the ice elementals, others of her kind but she was alone always alone. Never staying one place for long because sooner or later her mere presence caused the temperature of the land to drop to a killing freeze. Until she found the one place her powers had no effect. And perhaps the one being who could counter her freeze.

Running from a destiny not of his own choosing, Arch finally found the one person who could make him stop running. But Ice must never learn the truth. A fire demon destroyed her world and he was his father’s son.

  1. Happy release day LaVerne!!! Wow - a graphic novel! That's really cool lady and the story sounds fantastic!

Can you tell us about this new release and how this is different from anything you've done before? And will this be the first of a series of graphic novels?

Loved the video and the excerpt and can't wait to read it all!

Enjoy your party today and I hope this new venture of yours is a huge success!

  2. Hi AI- And thank you once again for having me.

Ice and Arch's story first began on a storytelling site in an interactive character format. And I tried to pretty much keep that format for the published work. I have made some changes however. The thing that's different from this work is that it combines that interactive format with a publishing format in that the POVs, points of view, are clear. But It's a graphic novel because there are images of the characters embedded within the story.

This is also purely a world that exist inside my own head. It's a fantasy work in the truest sense because the world is created from my imagination but with familiar points of reference to the reader.

The main characters are two elementals, one that controls ice the other fire. I took the concept of fire and ice to create this work and I hope the readers enjoy it. And yes it is indeed the first in a series.

  3. This is cool. I've never read a graphic novel, but I've heard of them before, of course. Is it just added pictures that make it a graphic novel or is it done like a comic?

  4. In this case it's the added pictures the addition of the images that make it a graphic work. But it's not a comic or manga.

    1. Hi Kaye- Thank you. I had a lot of fun working on this one. It began in an interactive character format and I wanted to maintain that aspect of it.

  8. I second Kaye. This is a fresh idea and I think it could be a new thing. I'm interested and off to check out the excerpt.

If this is going to be a series for you, are the stories going to follow these two characters? Or are you going to explore wind and earth next? Looking forward to your answer.

    1. lol hi Lauri and thank you.

Yes it is a series and yes I'll be exploring other elementals. And these two characters will continue to be a part of the storylines although they won't necessarily always be the central two. This first book introduces you to two elementals, fire and ice. The next book in the series will focus on Ice's brother's search for her and introduces you to another elemental. lol And that's all I'm saying for now.

  9. Wow, LaVerne! I'm intrigued! What a neat way to present your work! In this case, do you provide the art as well as the words? Or do you work closely with someone else who illustrates for you? What a neat way to really see the story come to life!
