A New Shapeshifter Romance From Sam Cheever

Today on our Cyber LaunchParty Blog we're celebrating Sam Cheever's new shapeshifter romance, FOXED, part of Changeling Press' multi-author Dire Wolves Series.

FOXED by Sam Cheever

Sinopa Breckenridge is restless. Something is bubbling just under her skin, making her shiver and sweat at the same time. She's noticed other changes too, like enhanced hearing, and the ability to see things she shouldn't be able to see in the dark. But more important, are the sexual changes. Her skin is so sensitive...her sexual core wound so tight...that she can barely think anymore.

So she's taken leave from her job as a magazine columnist and she's escaping to Last Chance, Alaska, to the cabin in the woods her grandmother left her in her will. She hasn't been there since she was a small girl, but she remembers it was very remote and quiet there. A good place, she thinks, to get a handle on whatever is going on with her body.

But she doesn't count on Crevan Dakota. He appears to be part of the countryside in her remote little part of the world at Last Chance. And, from the very first he sets his sights on Sinopa. His very presence ruins any chance she has of taming the beast clawing for release under her skin. In fact, being with him is about to set the beast free. And it's possible that neither of them is ready for what happens next!

Sam Cheever writes fast paced fantasy and romantic fiction with feisty characters who deal with life's little challenges in unique and often hilarious ways. As a reader Sam is very impatient. She quickly loses interest if a story doesn't have a good pace and snappy dialogue. Sam's inability to focus in a backwash of human angst and subtleties works out well for her readers, since she writes the way she likes to read.

In her real life, Sam lives on a hobby farm in Indiana with 10 dogs, 4 horses, 2 barn cats, 2 daughters, and one husband. Not necessarily in that order.

Sinopa Breckenridge is restless. Something is bubbling just under her skin, making her shiver and sweat at the same time. So she runs to Last Chance, Alaska, to deal with it in private. But she doesn’t count on Crevan Dakota. His very presence ruins any chance she has of taming the beast clawing for release under her skin. In fact, being with him is about to set the beast free.

To make things worse, shifters have been disappearing from Last Chance, and a killer is stalking Sin. When the situation heats up, it’s gonna take every resource the two of them can muster to keep Sin alive!

    ~~*~~

Crevan watched the woman sleep and tried to make sense of the possessive feelings roiling around in his gut. He’d felt the connection almost from the first moment he’d seen her on the ferry.

    And when they’d touched…

Her skin was like a memory he’d been trying to grasp for years. Her scent a compelling promise.

Unbidden, his grandfather’s words of a decade earlier whispered across his memory. They’d been filled with similar sentiments, expressed about another pretty vixen. Crevan remembered thinking at the time that his gramps had lost his mind, getting all hepped up about a silly fox.

But now he wondered if the attraction wasn’t carried in the blood. Because he was definitely having some lascivious feelings about the little fox sleeping in his bed.

She was small, as you’d expect a vixen to be, with creamy brown skin, wide, dark brown eyes that seemed to see past his skin and bones right into his soul when she looked at him, and a voluptuous body that was just screaming to be worshiped by a man’s hands and mouth.

By his hands and mouth. None other.
Crevan frowned at the thought and shook his head, as if the physical motion could erase the emotional reaction he was suffering.

Her short nose flared into expressive nostrils and was turned up just the tiniest bit at the end. Her lips were full and exquisitely soft. He knew that because he’d touched his mouth to hers after he’d tucked her safely into his bed.

Yeah, he’d crossed a line with the kiss, but he was willing to live with the stain on his soul. In fact, he decided, he might risk dancing in the fires of Hell for the intoxicating taste of her on his lips.

And her scent. Crevan closed his eyes. Beyond the manmade scents of shampoo, soap, and perfume, Sinopa had her own personal scent that made her nickname seem prophetic. It was like the fresh tang of broken pine needles underfoot. Or the clean wash of wind sliding through Last Chance after a snowfall.

She smelled like home. Like lust… and heat.

  3. Hello Sam and super congrats on the new release!

Sorry I'm late to the party, had a doctor's apt this morning and it took foooooreeeevvveeeer to get in and out - this the season I guess.

Oh and how sweet to offer up one of your long sleeve t-shirts too! I have a couple and love them! Thanks so much :)

Thanks for the excerpt too and will this be an on-going series for you or is it a multi-author series?

Let's see you cover demons, gods, faeries, superheroes, angels, and don't let me forget your genie, and now a fox shifter....what is your favorite character to write and/or read and why?

Hope you enjoy your party today and I hope FOXED is your biggest seller yet!

  4. Dire Wolves is a multi-author series for Changeling but I actually signed a contract today for a follow up story. Sin's sister told me she needed her own story. #:0) Vivica's story will actually be part of Changeling's new foxy series, with shorter, more light-hearted shape shifter stories. I'm really looking forward to contributing my story "Splintered" to the series.

I'm coming kind of late to the shifter party, but I'm enjoying the genre a lot. They're fun to write because you can draw a lot on animal behaviors and instincts when crafting your characters and we all know how much I love animals! #:0)

  8. Thanks BN100! I actually write contemporary romance, romantic suspense, young adult, and fantasy/paranormal too. I hope to try my hand at historical paranormal some day. I think it's a lot of fun!

Thank you for coming to my party!

  9. Congratulations on your new release. This sounds like another great book. Which is the easiest and which is the hardest genre for you to write?

  10. Hey Sherry!

Great question. Although I LOVE both genres it's much harder to write romantic suspense than it is to delve into fantasy/paranormal.

Mystery/suspense is a difficult genre because it really requires attention to detail to create a believable and interesting mystery. When you add romance into the mix, it gets even more complex. That makes it harder to write, but so much fun to read! #:0)

    Thanks for stopping by!

  11. Hi, Sam! Congrats on this new release! And yay on the sequel, too! How funny that you're "late" to the shifter phenomenon--I know you'll do these well though! How did you decide to start writing a shifter story? Do you read shifter stories? :)
