Celebrating The Print And eBook Release Of Erin Aslin's Debut Novel

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog, we're celebrating the print and ebook release of Erin Aslin's debut novel, THROUGH THE CLOUDS.

Erin Aslin was born and grew up in Ukraine, in the city of Kiev, and has lived in Chicago's north suburban area since 1992. Having earned a BS in civil engineering, she is working in the information technology field. Her passion, however, has always been reading and writing. She writes to answer the questions that life is asking. Having been on a spiritual quest through all her life, in 2007 she finally met her true teacher, Gangaji, who opened the floodgates of self-recognition. Erin is inspired by the vision and work of Gangaji, Papaji, Eckhart Tolle, and Adyshanti. Through the Clouds is her debut novel, and if anyone finds their answers in this novel, she is glad she wrote it.

THROUGH THE CLOUDS by Erin Aslin

"When Lisa Trubin falls in love with Mark Wally and discovers that he's not all he seemed to be, can she save herself from his seductive grasp and overcome his power over her?"

Lisa Trubin, a thirty-year-old single mother, is happy with her life. She works as a massage therapist to support her son, Irving, and although her life isn't the easiest, she doesn't feel as though it's lacking in anything. Then she meets Mark Wally, an attractive, confident and seductive man who overwhelms and excites her. As she falls in love with him, she realizes that she had been longing for something: a father for her son, a man to protect and support her, and a way to complete her family. But as Lisa gets to know Mark better, and their relationship progresses, she suspects that he's not the man she thought he was.

Readers will be inspired by the unfolding of Lisa's story, which is told in this insightful debut novel from writer Erin Aslin. Written from the heart, this novel will appeal to diverse audience, especially women, inspiring them to awaken to their dysfunctional relationships, and to see that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

  1. Good morning Erin!!! And super congrats on the release of your debut novel - THROUGH THE CLOUDS!

Nothing quite beats the celebration of a first novel, it's so many things wrapped up into one, a dream coming true and usually a book straight from the author's heart.

I find it very interesting that you are a spiritual teacher too and equally interesting that you chose fiction to share your message.

Please tell us a bit about your book and why you chose fiction instead of nonfiction to help readers find answers. And what's up next for you as a writer?

I hope you enjoy your launch party and I hope your new book reaches a huge readership and helps them find some of the answers they are looking for.

  9. Dear DeNita,
Many thanks to AuthorIsland for hosting the party today.

My book was first released in December, 2009 in e-format and now it is available in print. I am very excited!

Why novel? Well, I truly believe that spirituality cannot be separated from our day-to-day life stories. Spiritual awakening is not something one gets in a vacuum – instead, it begins in the midst of our life experiences. Dismissal of our life stories as trivial in the favor of “spirituality”, in fact, limits our possibilities on a spiritual path.

That is pretty much why I decided to write a novel. At first glance, Through the Clouds” might seem as a typical romance, where the main heroine, Lisa – an attractive, compassionate and industrious single mother – meets and falls in love with Mark – a handsome professional man who is romantic and caring. However, that which in the beginning appears like a beautiful love story – GOD’s blessing – becomes for Lisa a gradual descent into the deep darkness created by Mark's crippled psyche.

Lisa is able to break Mark’s “spell” and reclaim her life, but she asks herself questions – could she foresee her life with Mark when she first met him? Would she decide differently if she’d pay attention to red flags? – and she finds the answers deep inside of her own being.

If anyone finds their questions and answers in this novel, I am glad I wrote it.

  26. Thank you, Debby!
I I like such novelists as Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, Lisa Kleypas, Leo Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Vladimir Nabokov, to name a few. From the non-fictional or so called “spiritual” reading, my favorites are Gangaji, Eckhart Tolle, Adyshanti, Papaji (H.W.L. Poonja), Esther and Jerry Hicks. Currently, I am reading “A Course in Miracles.”

It’s a great question. I am glad you asked :)

  28. Thank you, Jenya!
It took me a while to write this book - around 3 years or so :). I have a full time day job, which is not writing, so I worked on the book whenever chance I had – evenings, nights, weekends and vacations…Looking back, it was a challenging, but also rewarding time.

If you read the book. I’d be glad to hear your thoughts.

  30. Thanks, Marina.
It wasn’t my choosing, per se, instead it seemed that the story and its main characters chose me :).
