LADY WARHAWK - Book Four In Michelle Levigne's Zygradon Chronicles

Athrar Warhawk fulfills his destiny as the prophecy of the Three Drops of Blood plays out in war and tragedy - and new prophecy gives hope.

Raised in hiding, Athrar Warhawk emerges to claim his place and destiny as Warhawk's Heir. Guided by Mrillis and Meghianna, supported by his foster-brother, Lycen, Meghianna's adopted son, he tries to hold the alliance together as rebels and traitors fight for dominance. Young love turns to betrayal and loss, made worse by the political games of court and a growing schism between Noveni and Rey'kil.

When Athrar finds his soul-mate, traitors and politics try to tear them apart, and magic tries to force her to betray him with Lycen. A new prophecy emerges, speaking of the Lady Warhawk, promising sorrow and hope for the future - even as the Nameless One emerges from hiding and begins his final campaign of destruction. Mrillis and Meghianna risk all to protect the defenseless thousands who have fled to Moerta, and in so doing lock the defenders in with their enemy, for all time. Only the Lady Warhawk will hold the key to the future, and to freedom.

  2. Good morning, everybody!

Hope you're all interested in "Lady Warhawk."

Funny bit of trivia -- this entire series started looooooong ago as a .... Fantasy Island fanzine story!

It was titled "A Day for a Knight" and featured a man who wanted to be one of King Arthur's knights, and a young woman who was brought to Fantasy Island as Mr. Roarke's ward. It turns out she has been living in foster homes since being found as a young child, with no knowledge of her past.

When Mr. Roarke takes her to a cave where Arthur lies sleeping, and tells her that she is Arthur's daughter, Emmi naturally accuses him of being Merlin! She then walks into Camelot, and must set events in motion to prepare for the return of Arthur -- including offering herself in marriage to the knight who can find Excalibur!

I took that short story and turned it into a novel, "Athrar's Heir." Unfortunately, when I turned the one book into a series of 5, with all the back story ... a LOT of "Athrar's Heir" now has to be thrown out. But I'm sure you'll enjoy the bits and pieces that remain in the fifth and final book in the series, "Rift War," which is due out NEXT April 15.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go finish roughing my December release ... and then get to work writing "Rift War"!!!!

  4. I love camelot and merlin and all that - do these books have to be read in order? And is that book Athrar's Heir still available somewhere? It sounds really good!

Good luck with your next project and congratulations on a wonderful EPPIE win and new release!

  5. This sounds like a very good book I can't wait to read it. How many books are in this series? Are they stand alone or do you have to read them all?

  6. There are five books total in the series.

#1 -- Zygradon (think the Grail)
    #2 -- Braenlicach (think Excalibur)
#3 -- Three Drops of Blood (Morganna, Morgause, and Arthur)
#4 -- Lady Warhawk (think The Sword in the Stone and the movie Excalibur)-- TODAY's release book
#5 -- Rift War -- totally new territory -- to be released April 15, 2011

No, "Athrar's Heir" was never published. I sent it to several publishers, and they turned it down. I'm glad they did! Peee-yew!

I'm talking to my publisher about releasing "A Day for a Knight" as a freebie on the Uncial Press site, maybe when "Rift War" comes out, so you can see what started it all. I don't know if I'd ever release "Athrar's Heir," just because, looking back, it's soooooo wretched, compared to what I'm writing now.

As for the question about whether you should read them all.... Ummm, I'm the author. I WANT you to read them all!

Actually, you probably do need to read them all, in order, because there are prophecies and certain events lead into the next, and you have to meet characters and watch them grow up and figure out who they are in Arthurian legend -- and the major changes I made in the "history."

Actually, I got ahold of a great book many years ago called "The Arthurian Encyclopedia," and it reveals many different versions of the story -- including several daughters for Arthur. Stories where Morganna was his supporter, not his enemy, stories where he wasn't illegitimate, and even stories where Mordred was framed and blamed for things he didn't do .... And LOTS of variations on the names we've all grown up with.

REMEMBER: Send in your book and movie titles of anything Arthurian -- doesn't have to be strictly Arthur (for example, the Arthurian elements in a season of "Babylon 5") -- and if I've read the books or seen the movies, your name goes into the drawing for the T-shirt.

  7. Do you have a favorite genre to write or do you like the variety? I'm big for variety in my reading although historical holds a special place. By chance have you seen the movie Ladyhawke?

  8. Oh, I loved Ladyhawke!
In fact, I was very tempted -- still am -- to get the movie for my iPod Touch. It's pretty inexpensive.

Don't know how many times I saw Ladyhawke in the theater. I was in film school when it came out, and my team in one class tried to copy the style with our student project -- we spent the day on the beach, with 2 hand-held cameras and 3 actors. It was great fun -- got a killer sunburn -- and we lost most of our work because of mechanical difficulties. :-(

That reminds me of a Highlander fanzine, where the writer postulated that Philippe DID fall, saving Isabeau, in that scene in the tower where they're hiding from the soldiers -- but he survived because he was an Immortal, and spent the next few centuries watching out for Navarre and Isabeau's descendants.

Yes, I like to write all over the place. I like variety in my reading too -- I can go from Terry Pratchett to JD Robb to Camy Tang with no problem. In fact, I just finished reading an old Alan Dean Foster on my iPod Touch, closed the file, and opened up "8 Cousins," by Louisa May Alcott. Eclectic to the max.

  10. My friend's daughter loves to read fantasy. Our your books ok for say a 10 or 12 year old to read? How much romance is in them - or should I say how steamy, because she loves romance, too.

  11. Just checked out your website, my goodness you have a lot of books out there! What is your favorite genre to write and what is your least favorite?

How many books do you have come out each year?

Good luck to you and I'm surprised you have time to do anything else but write ;-)
