My favorite thing to do was write in school, but when I got to adulthood, I never seriously pursued it. In my late 30's, early 40's, I tinkered with magazine articles and tried to start a book. Unfortunately, life got in the way again, so I boxed all my writing up in a small box and hauled it around for 20 years from Michigan to Virginia, Virginia to Oregon, Oregon to California, and California to Oregon again. Then finally in my mid-50's I opened the box, sat down, an tried again. I've released five fiction novels. I guess you can say I'm making up for lost time. My motto is the old saying it's never too late to follow your dreams.J. D. I used to make them on PhotoShop, but PP has a few features I like better. What really takes time is searching for stock background music that I think will go good with the storyline, and then purchasing photos of the same models on the cover. I'm terrible at making those decisions. I get my audio off of iStockPhoto.com. They have a good variety that are fairly priced. Thanks for asking!J. D. I've really enjoyed "Inside the Victorian Home, "Jane Austen for Dummies," and some great writing books like "Elements of Fiction: Conflict & Suspense." I love conflict in my stories. Frankly, I do not read many other romances myself, because I try to shy away from being influenced by other author ideas. I imagine when I hang up my pen, I'll probably read more; but I don't see that happening any time soon. As far as Fifty Shades, I had an insistent friend who wouldn't let me rest until I read it.J. Putting myself in Rachel shoes is real...Thank you! Putting myself in Rachel shoes is really the other way around. Rachel is in my shoes. The story of her abuse, is actually the story of my childhood abuse written into a fictional world. I was inspired to write it after reading the controversial Fifty Shades of Grey. There was one line in the book that Christian Grey spoke that frankly shocked me to the core. When Anastasia asks him why he is the way that he is, he responds, "I don't know any other way. This is who I am."

I gasped when I read it, because it was such a true statement of the effects of abuse upon my own life. I am who I am because of my experiences. It is the same of many other women who have grown into adulthood and dealt with the devastating effects. It touches every area of your personality from your sexual propensities, your self-esteem, your beliefs, and your relationships with others.

With all the interest worldwide in the screwed-up Mr. Grey, I just felt compelled to write what it's really like to be inside the mind of someone who has been abused. It's an untold story from a woman's point of view. I won't deny that I struggled writing the book and wondered if I frankly had gone a bit nuts to expose my darkest secrets. However, in the end, I have been so blessed with the constant emails and comments from women in similar situations thanking me for writing about it so honestly. And those who have never experienced it, are thankful that I've opened their eyes and shared the truth.

So yes, Rachel is in my shoes! She also embodies much of my own personality and dreams, because unfortunately I never met my Ian Richards in real life. J. D. The first one incorporated scenery from Oregon at Cannon Beach where a portion of the book is set. I chose a matte cover with my printer, and it came out extremely dark. I was dissatisfied and wanted something more eye catching and lighter. The second cover has received a lot of positive comments and the print version is stunning. I'm finally satisfied. They are the same models as the first, but I'm especially taken by Rachel's picture. It is, after all, her story.J. D.
